Just heading back from the Sechelt Arts Fair, very organized, good entertainment and food. Lots of vendors and big crowds. My booth was busy and easily surpassed my goal. Have to say first big fair was a success and learned a lot for the early Christmas Fairs. Off on the Alaska Cruise with family next week.

Desolation Sound is the perfect habitat for large ling cod. Craggy rock faces are everywhere and are perfect hiding spots for the lings. One of their favorite foods are small rock cod (rockies) and smaller ling cod, both of which are abundant. They are vicious predators and strike with speed and force. Every spring a pair of Canadian Geese landed in our little bay in Desolation Sound. They nested in the same small grassy knoll on the point. They would take turns incubated their eggs while they took turns to eat. A few weeks later the goslings hatched and then the pair would take them into the bay. People have asked, "What happened to little Bogart ?". Firstly Bogart was a pika not a pica, I apologize for that mistake. Bogart was on his rock for four springs in a row and so was the other pika which I assumed was his mate. I didn't mention that I did see her with a young one in early fall one year. One early Spring morning I was sitting outside enjoying the sunrise when I heard a strange chirping sound. Trying to follow the sound I saw a small rodent type animal sitting on a rock, looking up and chirping away. In the early spring on the BC Coast the grizzlies wake up. In Toba Inlet you see them regularly wandering the beaches for a meal. Mussels are one of their favorites, but they will eat oysters and like fresh beach grass. The beach is where they forage as it is too early in the year for their more normal foods. Newborn Baby Orca One of the joys of spending time in Desolation Sound is the amazing things you witness first hand. The photo above was taken by my nephew right in front of the property. Amazingly it was taken on Mothers Day. The Orca calf was newborn and you can see the mother holding it up on her fin for it's first breaths. Life in the West is a secret we want to keep. Mountains, forests, more mountains more forests and finally the Ocean. Westerners are generally pretty relaxed and never take the natural beauty all around us for granted. Whether you are a skier, boater, cyclist, golfer, camper or hiker there is no lack of places to enjoy your favorite activity. I always appreciated the western experience, the sun rises over the mountains to get our days going and at the end of the day it slowly sets in the ocean giving us spectacular sunsets. I am working my way through what I want to have on the website and what is the best way to share posts on website news, new products and anything else that might interest followers without being a pest.
