I've added 20 pictographs on the outside and just have touch ups left . Recently I've heard that okanagan elders have requested that the ancient pictograph art should not be copied exactly and artists should try to add our own personal interpretation so that something new may be created. Okanagan pictograph art has a lot of missing parts so we must try to fill in what's needed. I try to add different trees , clouds and water among other things to create something uniquely Ok...anagan Salish from my own personal perspective. I havent got the opportunity to add my interpretations of many insects and some animals to my main paintings so it's been challenging and rewarding to create 20 new contemporary pictographs. I've finished the imagery for inside the circle and will be filling the outside space with my pictograph versions. Title , Returning to the land 66x66 acrylic on canvas .

I added a river bank and rainbow trout since they are so plentiful here and the reintroduction of salmon in the okanagan has only been successful in recent years. I ate a lot of Rainbow trout and Kokanee . growing up.

Some more progress

So basic water now . I'll figure it out as I go along I guess.
