In January, we (Lorna and Candy) uploaded your annual tax forms for you to complete and return along with your tax documents that you will send to us over the next month or two. BIG NEWS! We have a new client portal system set up that we REALLY REALLY like! Check your emails for your information newsletter sent out last Friday, and the invitation to set up your Davis Accounting & Tax portal account through VERIFYLE! If you haven't received your invitation to access your account please email us at [email protected] and we'll make sure you are all set up! ... Have a lovely rest of the week!

Our awesome new client portal, Veryfile, launched in October and most of our clients should have received an email from Veryfile to sign into their new account! We have begun uploading your annual tax forms to fill out to each of your portal accounts to help you get ready for tax season! If your email address has changed, or you don't see any emails from Verifyle over the next week (check your junk mail!), then please email Lorna at [email protected] and we'll get you ...all set up! This portal is where you can upload your completed annual forms, send messages to us regarding your tax preparation, and provide all of your documents and tax slips securely. It's simple and user friendly- even better than the last portal! We think you'll really like it!! Almost all returns will be prepared remotely this year in order to provide safe, efficient, and timely service to our clients. There will be very limited in-person appointments, restricted to those who are unable to access our client portal or need additional assistance for complex matters. However, will be happy to book you a remote meeting through Zoom or telephone to go over your finalized tax returns where requested. And of course, the chat feature in our new portal will allow us to easily communicate back and forth with you for any questions and comments you have throughout the process! We will begin personal tax preparation on March 1, 2021. Looking forward to "seeing" you all again soon :)

If you need to update or set up your direct deposit information with CRA here's some info from them! We'll be filing personal taxes starting at the beginning of March for the 2020 tax year so getting it all set up now is a great idea :) Taxpayers are encouraged to register using one of the following options: My Account online service, MyCRA mobile application, by telephone, through most Canadian financial institutions, or by completing and mailing a direct deposit enrolment form available at the following link: www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/recg//inscription-enrolment-eng.html.

Business Owners- Did You Know? The CEWS (Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy) has been extended to December 19, 2020. There are some changes in the criteria for the period starting July 5th. For more details check out https://www.canada.ca//supporting-canadian-workers-and-bus

Don't forget that CERB payments you've collected are taxable! That means that when you do your taxes next year there is a good chance that you will owe additional amounts to CRA since taxes are not withheld on these payments to you. This article provides a good reminder and advice on ways to prepare before tax time next spring.

Message from EPCOR for Albertans worrying about paying their bill: Customer service and billing The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are wide reaching, and many individuals and businesses have had their incomes disrupted. With this in mind, we are pleased to stand together with the Government of Alberta, the City of Edmonton, and others in the utilities sector, to ensure that residents have the assistance they need and can focus their minds on taking care of their health and ...the health of their families. As of March 18, 2020: Residential and small business customers who are experiencing difficulties paying their utility bills may defer paying them up to 90 days. No additional late fees will be applied during this 90-day grace period. We will not disconnect customers who are in arrears. Customers who expect to have difficulty paying their bills are encouraged to contact us at 310-4300. Please note, due to the expected influx of calls as a result of the Government of Alberta announcement on March 18, we ask customers with concerns to delay calling until next week (week of March 23). It's important to note that we do send notices to customers who are in arrears on their account. Some customers will receive notices that were mailed before the significant disruptions created by the COVID-19 pandemic. During winter months, we do not disconnect residential customers for non-payment. There are no residential utility disconnections being processed in our service territory, and none planned for the foreseeable future. Customers can count on continuing to receive reliable utility services.

Due to the ever evolving nature of the COVID-19 virus, we are currently closing the office to in person meetings. Existing Clients- We will be happy to look after the preparation of your tax return by receiving your documents by email, fax, or upload to our portal (whatever you'd prefer). We will then forward you a PDF through Adobe Sign for e-signing (this will include a detailed letter explaining anything important you should know, the return itself, and your invoice). Pa...yments can be issued by etransfer or remotely by credit card (3% fee applies). We would be happy to book you a follow up phone call or video conference to discuss your return, if you wish! Thank you for your understanding as we work to keep providing the quality services you expect, while focusing on ways to keep us all safe.

At a time when limiting in-person social interaction is on everyone's minds, we would like to remind you that we have many options for secure remote transmission of your tax documents. We are happy to receive your paperwork through our secure online portal, email, or fax. We then can provide your tax returns to you in an encrypted online format by email or directly through the portal. All of our returns come with a detailed letter explaining the important things that you shou...ld note for the year and we are happy to follow up a telephone conversation to discuss it further should you wish. This is an excellent idea for people whose returns are very similar from year to year, or anybody who is feeling the need to be a little extra cautious at this time. We will do everything we can to work with you and help you get things done in a timely manner while keeping your health a priority. New this year at CRA! PayPal payments accepted!! You can now pay tax bills using PayPal through a third-party service provider!

If you've been having trouble logging onto your CRA account since Thursday ish... good news! The website seems to finally be up and running properly!

Important Dates to Remember! March 1, 2020: Final date for RRSP contributions (these will be deducted on your 2019 tax return!) March 15, 2020: Payment due date for first quarterly 2020 tax installment, if you are required to make installments... April 30, 2020: Due date for 2019 income tax return due and payment of taxes owing (unless you or your spouse is a sole proprietor) June 15, 2020: Filing due date for 2019 income tax return due for self-employed individuals and their spouses

All client letters and portal sign-in details have now been sent by email! Yay! If, for some reason, you haven't received one (from us) and one (from Client Track) or both- please check your spam folder. If it's not there it could be we need to update your email address so please send a note to [email protected] and we'd be happy to update your file and get those right off to you! The CRA online system officially opens for business for filing your 2019 taxes on Februa...ry 24th! But remember that tax slips don't have to be issued until the end of February by employers so sit tight to ensure you have everything! Other important due dates to be posted shortly for your convenience :)
