Most people are familiar with Resisted Training Techniques for improving performance but rarely do you see them incorporate Assisted-Movement Training: It's probably because most people don't know much about it so here’s a bit of information I hope you will find to be beneficial: WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RESISTED AND ASSISTED MOVEMENT TRAINING?... Resisted Training Movements are exercises in which an athlete utilizes GRAVITY RESISTED mediums to increase performance Whereas, Assisted Training Movements are exercises in which an athlete utilizes mediums which have GRAVITY AS AN AID to help improve performance. WHAT ARE EXAMPLES OF THESE TYPES OF TECHNIQUES? As can be seen in the clips I posted, instead of using resistance bands to add tension to squat jumps and plyo push-ups I am using them to help me increase my acceleration and speed of these same exercises. Of course, considering everything going on at the moment, not everyone will access to a squat or cable rack so a simple alternative people can use (at least for the lower body) is going up/down stairs or hills. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF TRAINING WITH THESE TYPES OF TECHNIQUES? One example I came across was Uptown (2011). He found both methodologies to be beneficial in improving acceleration times and maximum speed for the 40 yd sprint times of Division I Female Soccer Players. However, he noted 1 interesting difference; the players who trained specifically with Assisted Strength Training Techniques made the greatest increases in the first 15 yds of the sprint whereas those who trained with Resisted Strength Training Techniques made the greatest improvement during the final 25 yds. With all that being said, it may be of benefit to consider what the demands of your sport are and where you as an athlete are lacking so that you can alter your training towards those weaknesses. Just some #foodforthought. Drop any comments/questions/concerns below.
