Dear Davisville Parents, We hope you're excited about the school year starting tomorrow! The administrator for this page is no longer at Davisville school and we're looking for a replacement. This role is ideal for a parent who's comfortable posting updates on Facebook that they'd receive from the School Council. This commitment only takes about 5-10 minutes a week.... Please leave a comment below or email [email protected] if you'd like to volunteer for this role. Without any takers, unfortunately, this page may become inactive. Thank you, and wishing all a healthy, safe and successful school year!

Please make sure you subscribe to the School Council's weekly newsletter, to receive news and updates directly to your email: [email protected] From last week's email sent out to all the subscribed families: BUSSING TO VAUGHN RD ACADEMY (Davisville Junior Public School) Buses confirmed for Davisville while at our satellite location... All Davisville students will receive bussing starting the first day of school (September 8, 2020) to allow the special transportation arrangements to continue during the construction period. To help ensure the safety of students and drivers on student transportation services, a number of COVID-19 protocols and precautions have been put in place. These include: Requiring that all students (K-12) wear non-medical face coverings (exceptions will be made for students with medical conditions or special needs); Requiring that all bus drivers wear medical masks and/or face shields; Enhanced cleaning of high touch surfaces (e.g. seats, inside hand railing, interior windows and walls, etc.) before and after each shift, as well as in between runs. Further information will be provided the week of August 31 (possibly as early as week of August 24). See more

Join by phone +1-416-216-5643 Canada Toll (Toronto) Access code: 717 202 334 Retrieval of personal Belongings Family Access To Vaughan Road - deadline to respond is TOMORROW, June 4: We would like to get a sense of how many families need to retrieve essential items from the school. Any items that are not essential will remain at the school until such time that the school re-opens; we will not be throwing items out. Please complete the following Google Form by THURSDAY JUNE 4th (apologies for the short timeline) to provide us with information that will allow us to plan appropriately. https://forms.gle/fqQdn57tbGm87tB18 As part of any process that we proceed with, anyone entering the school will have been asked if they have completed the self-assessment procedure created by Toronto Public Health. You can find that procedure (reviewing and evaluating personal symptoms of COVID-19) by clicking here: https://www.toronto.ca//covid-19-have-symptoms-or-been-e/. If you have not self-assessed you will not be able to enter. Here are some additional processes that will be in place: Only one member per family will be allowed with students into the school (unless there is an exceptional circumstance) Anyone entering the school must follow strict physical distancing guidelines (must be 2 meters apart) While waiting to enter the building, all families must also practice physical distancing All people entering will be escorted by staff both in and out of the building For those students who have a locker, staff will not have locker numbers or combinations on hand therefore families must be prepared with this information We have no ability to arrange transportation to or from the school All entry and exit to the school will be through the front door of the building. All other entry points will be locked Masks must be worn in the building (we recommend to wear them while waiting to enter the building as well) There are a very limited number of masks available at the school therefore we ask that you bring your own if you have one. Hand sanitizer must be used upon entry and exit If you have library books, text books, music instruments or any other school items and are coming to the school to pick up essential items, a drop-off procedure will be in place. Please do not make a special trip for these items as they can be returned once school re-opens. PLEASE DO NOT RETURN ANY DEVICES THAT WERE PROVIDED BY THE TDSB.

Accessing Belongings Left at School: The TDSB is developing an access protocol that would enable students and parents/families to retrieve belongings in a manner that is safe for everyone during the month of June. This is an important step. School boards nationwide recognized the importance of allowing families to retrieve their personal belongings to ensure that a proper cleaning of the schools can be done before school communities can return. ... Return to School Final direction and requirements will come from the Ministry of Education, Toronto Public Health and/or public health agencies. The Minister of Education will be making an announcement about school for the remainder of the school year (hopefully) later this week. Happy Victoria Day! Mindfulness Monday Meditations that are now posted on our School website. You can access these by visiting our website https://schoolweb.tdsb.on.ca/davisville/ and checking out the top right corner of the page. Stay at home activity suggestions for kids are welcome! Here's a sample: How about create a survey. 1) Kids have to come up with a list of questions, i.e. What is your favourite animal? a) dog b) cat c) horse d) gorilla Who is the funniest family member? a) Bubie b) Crazy cousin so- and-so c) our cat d) me. Older kids can design questions about things that interest them i.e Who is the most talented Raptor? a) Lowry b) Kawhi c) Vince Carter d) Raptor mascot...or use dumb hum...our i.e. What's the most disgusting thing in our house? a) brussell sprouts 2) Dad's hockey bag 3) my room 2) Next, help them make a list of family members they can call. Phoning rather than emailing the survey means they get to interact with their grandparents, cousins etc at a time when they aren’t seeing them much because of social distancing. 3) Kids have to call family members, explain what they’re doing, ask the questions and record the answers. 4) The next step is figuring out the most popular answers and analyzing the data ie 8 out of 10 people like gorillas 5) Then they have to create a way to display the data. Younger kids can draw a picture of the most popular answers (i.e. gorilla) Or you can print out and glue photos of family members and help them make a chart. Older kids can determine percentages (ie 80% of family like gorillas) and then plot a graph 6) Finally, email their artwork/graph to all the family participants! See more

Playing outdoors is OK, as long as you stay away from other people (keep about 6'-8' or 1.5m apart) and don't use the playground structures. Remember, the Covid-19 virus can live for several hours on metal surfaces. Like many respiratory viruses, including flu, Covid-19 can be spread in tiny droplets released from the nose and mouth of an infected person as they cough. A single cough can produce up to 3,000 droplets. These particles can land on other people, clothing and sur...faces around them, but some of the smaller particles can remain in the air. There is also some evidence that the virus is also shed for longer in faecal matter, so anyone not washing their hands thoroughly after visiting the toilet could contaminate anything they touch. Research has shown that coronaviruses can be inactivated within a minute by disinfecting surfaces with 62-71% alcohol, or 0.5% hydrogen peroxide bleach or household bleach containing 0.1% sodium hypochlorite.
