Lots of rain this last days and the river is running very high.
In case you are wondering - the Dawson River Hostel is open for the season. Private rooms and tenting are OK but dormitories are only for groups travelling together and not for individual travellers..........bring your tenting gear...))

Dates to remember - Sept. 21st...last day at Diamond Tooth Gerties Casino in Dawson. From then on only on Weekends and on special occasions. Sept. 22.... the bo...rder will close between Tok, Alaska and Dawson City. Sept 24th ....The ferry across the Yukon River at Dawson will stop running night shift between 11pm and 7am. Last ferry going West is 10.40pm and last ferry back to Dawson is 10.50pm. Sept.30th.....the Dawson City River Hostel in Dawson West will close for the season. See you again from the middle of May..))))
One of the most popular questions we get in winter is about the ice bridge- and guess what, this year we have an official ice bridge again! If you look closel...y you can spot the pick up truck driving across the river, with the George Black Ferry in the forefront perched in its winter resting place. April 15-16, 2019 Mon-Tue overnight with perfectly clear sky It was the second day in Tombstone territorial park in Yukon. That was amazing night with break up aurora and Ogilvie Mountains. I had never had such an incredible experience in my life.

Day 4 Vixen Caribou like lichens! Part fungi, part algae or cyanobacteria, a lichen is a symbiotic association of several organisms. And Caribou love to eat t...hem. In some herds up to 75% of the winter diet is lichen! Like all ungulates, Caribou have special digestive systems to extract maximum nutrition from their food. The first section of their four-chambered stomachs is called the rumen. Here is where micro-organisms and fermentation break down tough lichens and plant material into usable nutrients. It’s unclear how well the Caribou gut handles gingerbread cookies

Fall has arrived here in Dawson City! The colors are stunning around Dawson, on the Top of the World and in Tombstone Park! Some lucky ones have also been able ...to see the Northern lights! The border on the Top of the World Highway at Little Gold/Poker Creek will be closing on September 23rd at 9pm Yukon Time or 8pm Alaska Time. We are still open from 8am to 8pm every day until September 30th! Make sure to come and see us to get the updated information on things to do in Dawson at this time of the year!

Hello to all...Almost end of April and the ice on the Yukon River is getting thinner but nobody really knows when it will flush out...and about 10 days after that the ferry should be in the river. And that is when the hostel will be open for business....))) I will keep you posted.

And since a few days ago every private room / cabin has small solar lights. With 24 hours daylight not really needed unless we get a cloudy dark day.....but certainly from mid August.
