Unlike conventional manufacturing, the Autoclave process allows for much less cement required in the creation of the block, this will reduce the carbon impact in the block manufacturing process. The CO2 emission from concrete production is related to the cement used in the concrete; 900 kg of CO2 are emitted for the fabrication of every tonne of cement, accounting for 88% of the emissions associated with the average concrete mix. The Autoclave process is comprised of steam cu...ring the block under pressure which results in block that is more resistant to water damage. Autoclave drying and curing results in a tougher, stronger block that is more resistant to moisture and eliminates the need for water repellants. More surface applied water repellants can be added for enhanced performance. Autoclave block offers enhanced Colour Consistency and results in uniformity from cycle to cycle. The Autoclave process results in no efflorescence from the block. Lime and salts unite with silicates during the Autoclave process to form new solid structures free of leaching or efflorescence. Day & Campbell Ltd. Autoclave Block is Lighter and easier to work with. Block dried well below standard residual moisture content means less water resulting in a lighter block. Increased efficiency in lifting and carrying our lighter materials. As much as 4000 lbs. in total weight can be saved on only 1000 blocks. Understandably, Autoclave Blocks are stronger than standard block. Complete curing at time of Manufacturing, within 8 hours, the block is at full strength, where other conventional low pressure manufactured blocks take 28 days to cure to full strength. As well, shrinkage is non-existent. No linear shrinkage is ideal in construction and saves money with less wall reinforcement, fewer control joints, less chance of mortar cracking, and better IRA.
