When you see a post about family portraits... what comes to mind? I think we all expect to come from a family portrait session with amazing smiling photos of all kids and family members smiling at your photographer! I am here to tell you this is a myth! As a family / child photographer, YES this is the goal but out of an average of 500+images, you are likely to get 5 of "the money shot"! What you usually get is an amazing variety of images that speaks thousands of words ab...out your family. Today I had a great family with 3 little ones! The ice on the river has recently melted and throwing rocks and just being kids playing was way more exciting than posing for family pictures! These kids were troopers! I did get the "money shot" but the sneak peeks you are going to see is what I feel is the true story of this family...real, going with the flow and letting kids be kids and it was so refreshing! I was able to sit back, throw on my huge zoom lens and capture candids as the kids explored the great outdoors... it has been way too long since I have had a session like this!! Getting out of your own way! I am super excited about this image taken today! Not only is she the most gorgeous momma but she really wanted indoor Maternity pictures. I have always relied on "I don't do indoor" but due to the recent temperatures, I did a bit of research and decided that I could alter my go to style a bit and think outside the box. I was super nervous and really didn't know how it would all work out. I made my tiny corner of my living room into a pseudo st...udio and prepped a lot! Its funny how we naturally fall back on what we know and how easy it is to get comfortable there! I think I will challenge myself to start getting uncomfortable more often and I can't wait to see what happens when I learn to let go a little bit more! Who is with me? I know I have been a little absent here on the facebook page! I promise... I am working hard behind the scenes. You all have been so patient and waiting for you galleries. This Oct - Dec has been the busiest yet and and I am so thankful. I am going to leave you with an image of this sweet girl! She definitely is the most determined and strongest girl I have met.... she made us work for these images and I am so happy mom will have this memory of her!

We are back and open! I hope you all had a great Christmas. I know many of us were missing family this year and it was different and difficult for a lot of people. I for one am hopeful and excited for 2021, I do not know what it will look like, but I like to think we are inching closer to the finish line of social distancing, no travel and limited to no gatherings. I did take sometime out of the office to spend at home with my family here and I feel way more refreshed and h...ave lots of ideas for 2021! Can't wait to start sharing them all with you!
