Another fun project underwater. We are replacing the original deck built off the house that was really showing its age. Unfortunately we could not replicate the original design as it no longer conformed with present bylaws, so we extended the front to create a nice seating area. This is one of the more ambitious deck projects we have taken on. We removed the existing deck which was weather beaten and inadequately supported since its creation. To make matters worst, a previous contractor had installed a frameless glass handrail without ensuring it had proper support. A windstorm last year removed the glass, and a significant portion of the perimeter framing from the deck. We are recreating a similar deck shape, but are drastically increasing the square footage to maximize my clients amazing view. We will be finishing the structure with timbertech decking and a custom glass handrail. Sorry everyone, it has been a while since I posted. Here is an update from one of our recent projects. The deck was previously built sitting directly against bed rock with little to no clearance between it and the framing for a good 1/3 of the original structure. To remedy this we jack hammered out a good a good section of bedrock to create adequate clearance even with upsized dimensional lumber.
