This car is a new resident to Thunder Bay, and we're richer for it. How about a one-of-eightproduced that year, tripple-blue '64 Dodge Polara 500 convertible. A 56 year old muscle car is going to have a story and tracing this one's past takes you through it's origins in Kentucky, across an international border twice, a stint as a r...ace car, the host of an authentic 426 stage III, cross ram Max Wedge engine and then back to fully restored cruiser sporting a stout 440. The factory 383 is long gone but the rest of this machine is in tact right down to the factory AC, power windows, power top and factory floor-shifted Torque Flite. This era of power- Mopars have been overlooked in favour of the coke-bottle '68-up cars but not any longer, these cars are now hitting their stride. Great styling, light weight and big power going through a modern , quick shifting 3-speed automatic made these cars legendary and started a power race that lasted to the end of the muscle car era. BACK TO THE STREET. A street car that became a race car and is now again a street car. Doug's real sweet '67 has come full circle. After building his Pro- Charged 7 second '68 Camaro last year the thought of putting the old '67 back into daily drive duty made sense. If you know Doug you know he was gonna make it better than it was before. 500 +hp 383 stroker mated to a modern T56 trans and a new 12 bolt round out the power train. Updated, hydraulic actuated twin disc McLeod ...clutch ensure smooth, quick shifts out of that short throw, rock solid, 6-speed. Complete body do-over performed by Doug himself right down to the paint and polish. Full Autometer instrumentation mounted in a custom '67 dash cluster housing is a nice combo of nostalgia and modern precision monitoring. The modernization continues through the suspension with upgrades at both ends. HD sway bar, performance springs and Comp Eng torque transfer links in the rear. The front is handled by another "big bar" and improved - geometry control arms that set the Camaro flat and pointed in the right direction through the curves. The tubs are subtly widened for the wide custom spec Torque Thrust 's and max width Nitto low pro's. The engine is a nice execution of clean function. The CVF Racing accessory drive unit employs one single 8-rib, serpentine belt to run the regular pumps plus a vacuum pump and the Sanden A/C compressor. The vacuum pump maintains a negative crank case pressure ensuring good piston ring seal, higher power output and a dry, shop - floor. All attribures he took advantage of on the blower-car that worked so well. The Vintage Air system allows him and Lucy to cruise in comfort and style. Doug says the trasformation is remarkable. The old car now feels new, it's fast, real fast, it corners like a modern car, the four wheel disc brakes quickly haul it to a stop, it's comfortable and reliable ( drives it to work every nice day).
