I love sitting on the Public Safety committee with Damien C. Kurek. As a fellow rural MP, he gets the rural crime issue and is a strong ally in the fight to red...uce rural crime in Canada. In the summer of 2018, after months of consultations, speaking with rural crime watches, RCMP officers, as well as elected officials from rural and remote communities from across Canada, I brought my Private Members Motion on rural crime, M-167 for debate in the House of Commons. All parties voted in favour of it in the House of Commons, but the Liberals on the Public Safety committee gutted the motion and deleted every call for action from my motion. In 2015, the same year the Liberals formed government, rural crime rose for the first time in 12 years. The Liberals delayed the committee work far beyond the deadline and produced a measly 2-page report containing notes of witness testimony; but not a single recommendation or commitment to addressing the issue. The numbers are shocking and rural crime continues to increase yet the Liberals continue to ignore the issue. There is no mention of rural crime in the Prime Minister’s mandate letters to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness or the Minister of justice and Attorneys General of Canada. The Liberals are evading Rural Canadians deserve results. #canpoli #PublicSafety #ruralcrime
