In the midst of a giant The small city of Antigua in Guatemala is surrounded by three volcanoes: Fuego, Acatenango and Agua (seen here). Agua is the closest Volcano to the city, and forms an impressive backdrop, dominating the landscape except when hidden by cloud cover and haze. Reaching 3760 metres in height. Agua has had no historical eruptions, but its name (the water volcano) originates from a devastating mudflow in 1541 to the the first Guatemalan capital city, promptin...g the establishment of a new city, Antigua. . . . . #Gautemala #Antigua #volcano #VolcándeAgua #guatemala #landscapephotography #roamtheplanet #exploretocreate #landscape_lovers #landscapelovers #landscape_captures #travelphoto #travelguatemala #bd_features #worldcaptures #nikon_top #nikon_photo #natgeoit #natgeotravel See more

Semana Santa I just got back from spending a couple weeks in Guatemala, where I was leading a workshop with @photographerswithoutborders . It is a beautiful place, from the people, culture, food and colours. I first arrived on the tail end of Semana Santa (or Holy Week), to the city of Antiqua abuzz and closed off streets full of carpets carefully crafted out of coloured sawdust, flowers, candles (known as alfombras). That night, after hearing what sounded like fireworks go o...ff, I stepped out of my hotel door to a street filled with incense, black robes and roaring trumpets. Thousands of people had gathered in the streets to watch one of the many Black Saturday processions, some which would take anywhere from 2 to 6 hours and span a few blocks or the length of the entire town. It was an incredible event to witness. . . . . #Gautemala #Antigua #Semanasanta ##travelphoto #streetphotography #lensculture #magnumphotos #morethanphotographers #documentaryphotography #Holyweek #procession #moodygrams #bd_features #worldcaptures #exploretocreate #nikontop

Boreal Just got back from two weeks in Red Lake, Ontario amongst some magnificent trees; black and white spruce, balsam, jack pine and trembling aspen, some of the many species that make up the boreal forest, which spans from Alaska all the way to Newfoundland. I’ve got to say, it was quite rejuvenating to be in the forest almost everyday, something which I needed. There’s enough research you can read, but spend even just a few hours visiting a forest and you’ll understand ho...w beneficial they are for our health. . . . . #boreal #borealforest #tiaga #exploreontario #ontarionature #sharecangeo #imagesofcanada #discoverON #discoverontario #ontariotravel #ontarioadventures #ontarioparks #enjoycanada #wildernessculture #treebrilliance #treestagram #greatnorthcollective #northernontario #nikontop

Solo Can you spot him? A lone caribou makes his way across a rugged mountain slope; almost a brown speck in the distance. This was the only the second caribou we came across after a week in the Refuge, a lone traveller that was days and days ahead of the eventual herd that made their way through the Brookes Mountain Range. Following in the footsteps (literally at times) of these caribou was an incredible experience, if not testing at times. Their journey through the Refuge is... not an easy one, and was amazed to watch this caribou effortlessly navigate the steep and rocky mountainside. The story of the ANWR and these caribou is not over. A big thank you to @petermather for spearheading 8 expeditions this summer, and this inspiring work you’ve done to tell these important stories in the North, along with @ilcp_photographers , @wildernesssociety and @keepalaskawild. . . . . #caribou #porcupinecaribou #ourarctic #standwiththegwichin #defendthearcticrefuge #alaska #explorealaska ##alaskamagazine #protectthesacred #travelalaska #alaskamagazine #ANWR #1Frame4Nature #ilcp #ourwild #TheWildernessSociety #alaskwild #letsexplore #ig_discover_wildlife #wildlifeplanet #wildlifeonearth #roamtheplanet #exploretocreate

Underground An arctic ground squirrel and friend look out from one of their many burrows in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. While camping on the third day of our expedition, I started to holes in the ground all around and soon began to see tiny heads and inquisitive eyes appear. We learned quickly that they were more mischievous than cute, constantly on the lookout for food, or in @mcummingsphoto case, hats and trekking poles. From September to April, these squirrels ret...reat into burrows more than a meter beneath the tundra to hibernate, where their body temperature drops below freezing during this time (the lowest temperature ever measured in a mammal). . . . . #ourarctic #standwiththegwichin #defendthearcticrefuge #alaska #explorealaska #travelalaska #alaskamagazine #protectthesacred #wearethearctic #travelalaska #alaskamagazine #ANWR #DefendTheSacred #1Frame4Nature #Alaska #ilcp #ourwild #TheWildernessSociety #alaskwild #keepalaskawild #natgeoit #wildlifeconservation #wildlifeseekers #natgeoyourshot #nikond850
