Thank You! It seems almost too little to express our appreciation to those who have supported our business in the challenging times of 2020. It has been great to have so many return customers as well as many new to us this spring and summer, and then first-time visitors during our Christmas season. When we adopted the motto We’re Growing For You In More Ways Than One last year we didn’t envision the ways we would be growing this year such as with online sales or follow...ers on Facebook and Instagram. We are not only blessed with the best community and customers, but fortunate to have a great team working to serve you. We thank them for their contributions to our success and are proud to have them as part of our work family! We look forward to seeing you in the spring! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year stay safe. Pair them with a simple pot and we will transplant it for you. Yes, buy any plant and a pot from Debbie’s Greenhouse and this fall we are transplanting it for free. #debbiesgreenhousekenora

Good things come in small packages. So my mother always told me. The most recent assortment of 4-inch tropicals has a number of interesting varieties for someone looking to add something different and special to their space. Take for example the Pilea involucrata or Friendship Plant. The fuzzy, crinkled foliage is sure to brighten your home. Its common name is due to the rapid rooting of cuttings that can be established for new plants to give friends and family. It needs 6 to 8 hours a day of light (but not direct sunlight), ample humidity and evenly moist soil to thrive. Visit Debbie’s Greenhouse at 14 Mark’s Lane, Kenora. Open 8-4 Monday to Saturday. Closed Sunday.

African violets are great little houseplants with beautiful showy flowers. To keep them looking good keep the soil lightly moist and most importantly water from the bottom to avoid getting excess water on the leaves. The leaves are susceptible to rot if kept in high humidity. You will want to repot the plants as they grow, but keeping them slightly root-bound should encourage them to bloom. You’ll want to keep your African violets away from drafty windows in winter and they like medium to bright filtered light. Leggy stems tell you the plant is getting too little light. Visit Debbie’s Greenhouse at 14 Mark’s Lane, Kenora. Open 8-4 Monday to Saturday. Closed Sunday.

Here’s a kind of snow that plant lovers can appreciate! The Snow Dieffenbachia is a large growing variety of this tropical houseplant, reaching to six feet or more in height. It features variegated dark green leaves with creamy-white speckles. With the right conditions (moisture in the air, but light watering and a lot of bright, indirect light and a feed of liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer), the Snow Dieffenbachia will grow quickly to become an impressive plant for the house or office. Its tolerance of shade make it a good plant to learn the basics of indoor plant care, but it is not recommended for homes with small children. Buy a houseplant and pot and we will plant it for you! It's true! Planting perennials in the fall is an easy way to enjoy a bigger, more beautiful garden the following year. While most gardeners are more accustomed to planting in spring, fall is also an ideal time to get perennials established in your garden. Here are several reasons why planting perennials in fall makes good sense: 1. Fall weather and soil temperature In northern climates, the soil in spring is cold but root systems flourish best in warm soil and air temperature... may drop in autumn, the soil temperature holds on to heat more readily than the air -- so the soil stays warm and welcoming to plant root systems. And while fall weather may be cooler it is generally more consistently warm and the sun less intense. These combined conditions allow plants, which are spending their energy on root growth, to grow stronger. 2. Enjoy colour in the fall -- and again in the springBuying blooming perennials in autumn means you can get a seasonal two-for. Not only can you enjoy flowering perennials in your fall garden, but by planting in fall your perennials flourish faster in spring and summer -- meaning you benefit in the following year’s bloom. 3. Benefit from great prices Debbie’s Greenhouse is selling all in-stock perennials 2-for-1. Check it out at 14 Mark’s Lane, Kenora (3km north of the bypass on Redditt Road/Hwy 658). Open 8-4 Monday to Saturday. Closed Sunday. See more
