DISCOVER// DJD was founded to re-ignite the traditional values of jazz dance and it's connection to jazz music. Norma Miller was born in Harlem, New York, in 1919. When the Great Depression began in 1929, Miller and her family moved to a new apartment that faced the Savoy Ballroom. Miller got her first job at the Apollo and soon began her career at The Savoy as a professional Lindy hopper. Known as the "Queen of Swing", she was also a choreographer, actress, author, and come...dian. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYrQgQhez8I

DISCOVER// DJD was founded to re-ignite the traditional values of jazz dance and it's connection to jazz music. William James "Count" Basie was an American jazz pianist, organist, bandleader, and composer. In 1935, Basie formed his own jazz orchestra, the Count Basie Orchestra, and in 1936 took them to Chicago for a long engagement and their first recording. He led the group for almost 50 years, creating innovations like the use of two "split" tenor saxophones, emphasizing th...e rhythm section, riffing with a big band, using arrangers to broaden their sound, and others. Over the years, many musicians came to prominence under his direction. Count Basie and his Orchestra - One O'Clock Jump (1965) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4G7bJhY6_c
