A sneak peek at Edmonton Police Service’s new look to social policing. HELP is on the way! You may have seen this vehicle on the streets of Edmonton and wondere...d what it’s all about. EPS has created a new Human-Centred Engagement and Liaison Partnership (HELP) unit, officially launching on January 4th, 2021. HELP is a partnership with Boyle Street Community Services, placing collaboration and the development of social policing at the forefront by working closely with community partners. A uniformed police officer and a Boyle Street Community Services Navigator are teamed up to assist frontline patrol officers in diverting some of our more vulnerable community members from the justice system and into sustainable supports by collaborating with social support agencies. These police vehicles are designed to be highly visible within the city, encompassing the diversity found within Edmonton’s people and places. The vehicle’s coloured lines hold onto each other, representing a network of support from the various partners involved. The overall message is that we are all, supporting community members in partnership. Please stay tuned for more information on this developing unit within the next few weeks.
