This is the video shot in 2019 for the Deep Cove Dive Clean Up! Last year, Henry Wang and his dive team were in action, cleaning up the seabed, next to the government dock! As you can see, there's some shocking things that get found under water! Unfortunately, the waters don't stay as clean as we would hope! The good news - Henry and his team are back again this year to dive in and clean up! ... If you want to see how much garbage Henry and his team finds (and to thank them!), come to Deep Cove BC in the morning of October 3rd! This is a great opportunity to help: We will be supplying kayaks for anyone wanting to help by paddling and floating next to the divers (this is necessary to avoid having boat traffic go across the dive areas - keeping the divers and everyone involved safe!). To get set up as a volunteer kayaker, reach out to our Erian Baxter at: 604-838-2046. We're also hoping for volunteers to help clean up the surrounding areas in Deep Cove by picking up rubbish on the streets. Join us! We are thrilled to be welcoming back school groups to Deep Cove Kayak this Autumn. Schools are back in session and are taking the opportunity this September and October to take part in outdoor activities. Now more than ever, outdoor education is incredibly important, it gives students the chance to safely socialize and participate in activities while keeping a distance from each other. At Deep Cove Kayak we pride ourselves in teaching more than just kayaking, we teach studen...ts social skills, about pushing their comfort zones, about the history and geography of Indian Arm, about the marine life native to Indian Arm, about conservation and the environment, about water safety, the list goes on! As a note to our neighbors and community members, this does mean that there will be school busses and larger busses passing through Deep Cove again. In times where physical distancing is important, a lot of schools are opting for larger busses with smaller groups on them so they are able to safely physically distance themselves on board the bus. All groups that come to us are following regulations laid out by the District Of North Vancouver and are obtaining permits when required to do so (busses with 24 passenger seats or less are not required to obtain a permit to enter Deep Cove) Please see our Fall Updates for School and Community Groups and our Bus Permitting Infographic for Deep Cove Kayak Groups for more information. The water is calmer Due to less boat traffic, it's possible to experience serene paddling, and you can enjoy calmer waters! The water is still warm - perfect to train in! On average, in September, the water temperature is higher than June! This setting makes it perfect to train in and to perfect things like your capsize recovery! Less people at tourism hot-spots With kids in school and families getting back in to routine, there are less people at the beaches. More space to enjoy! Less sweating & overheating With the air temperature a bit lower, many people find that they can go even longer in the kayak because the heat doesn't drain them so much - very convenient! Fall colours are amazing and they look great by kayak! At the end of September, you'll have the best vantage point of the changing colours, out on the water! The Virtual Indian Arm Challenge has been underway for some days now and with some luck, this smoke will clear up and you can register a time before September 30th! Register your time for the Virtual Indian Arm Challenge on webscorer (link at the bottom) The event detail:... This event can be completed by the end of day September 30th and DOES NOT NEED TO BE COMPLETED IN INDIAN ARM. This is a virtual race that can be completed anywhere in the world as long as you can safely paddle 16 or 32km! You may participate in either the 16km or the 32km course. If you would like to compete in both, we would ask that you please complete them in separate sessions. (do not pull your 16km time out of your 32km time). Race rules are: -Paddle must be an out and back paddle (finish where you started) -Self propelled craft only -Wear a PFD and leash at all times -Be safe, make good choices!
