Hey Everyone We have DUCK eggs available for sale! 1/2 dozen for $6... We are going to use an honour system. We will be using our driveway by our black mailbox...you can drive down part way until you see the fresh eggs sign on the left ~ turn in here ~ first come first serve and when they’re gone they’re gone You will see the cooler with the eggs. You can leave your money in the container that will be inside of it or etransfers are fine too: [email protected] For those who love to bake (like us!)...Duck eggs are GREAT used in baking & are bigger than a regular chicken egg. Also, some people find duck eggs easier on their digestive system & so if that’s you: try our eggs~they’re fresh!! Chicken eggs aren’t quite ready but will be hopefully in a couple weeks!! Welcome our newest addition to the Farm... Meet, Dakota! She is an 8-week old Bernese-Akbash who is full of energy and is going to be a great companion to Timber.... After the loss of the 2 Turkeys, we realized quickly that Timber has a lot on his plate every night trying to keep tabs on all the animal activity going that goes on around here. Not complaining...it just comes with the territory, and it’s a reality because of where we live. We have almost always had 2 dogs on site, but lately Timber has been running solo. But not anymore. So we are very excited to add Dakota to the Deep Roots family!

Lots of life on the Farm these days! But we also experienced loss last week... A predator - still not sure what - got one of our turkeys. ... The same pred also fatally wounded another one and we had to put it down. We never found the other one...just a trail of feathers. Sobering. Yes, it’s a farm reality. If you have domestic farm animals, there is a clear and present danger of wild animals taking their shot. We have read about it tons, watched many farming vids, and heard from a bunch of our neighbours, but this was our first loss and it stung. Life and death are part of farming, and a reality of our existence. What a powerful - and hard - experience for all of us. Our culture, by and large, distances itself from death as much as it can. We couldn’t distance ourselves from this...it was right outside our backyard. Experiencing this has given us an even greater respect for the animals in our care. We know this won’t be the last time we have to deal with something like this. But we have also recommitted ourselves to maintaining a healthy level of active vigilance to make sure we are doing our part to care for whatever creatures we choose to bring to the Farm. So here are some pics of the amazing life we get to experience and observe every day. What a gift!

Night Lights at the Farm... Most people don’t see this beauty because they aren’t here when the sun goes down (and the mosquitos come out! ) It’s a different perspective on the same landscape.... Eyes that look are common; eyes that see are rare. As you look at your day, your world, your life...what are you seeing today? Perspective is HUGE. ... One year ago Deep Roots Family Farm was still just a sketch on a napkin. Last year on , Monday, August 5, the Goerzen Gang headed up to Osoyoos for an amazing week together at the Lake (big shout out and thank you again to Jim & Cathy Thornton!). This drawing was the fruit of many conversations we were having at the time of the what if possibilities of a long time dream finding legs.... Where Dreams Become Reality... It’s crazy to fathom how much has actually happened in our life and on this property in a year’s time. We are now living that dream and trying to find our way forward with a fledgling business that is stating to find its own legs - and in the midst of a global pandemic to boot! Lol Thank you to everyone who has given us a ton of encouragement and support along the way to this point. Tony Robbins has a some words of counsel that have stuck with me: Too many people overestimate what they can do in one year, but underestimate what they can do in 5 or 10. King Solomon - recognized as one of the wisest people to ever live - penned these words: Where there is no vision the people perish. Standing back to take stock of what we actually have been blessed with here is absolutely mind-blowing! So what is your dream that has been stuffed deep into that closet in your heart. It’s time to dig out those old napkin scribbles and take the first step toward what God has deposited into your heart. For the non-pickers, we will have baskets at the Farm Stand all day. We also have 5lb bags of frozen blueberries ready to go as well. ...
