ANSWER: AARON EKBLAD. @Ekblad5FLA After a six-week review of his application, Hockey Canada gave Ekblad "Exceptional Player Status," making him eligible for the OHL 2011 Priority Selection at the age of 15. @SunCountyAAA #ALLIANCEHockeyTriviaTuesday
Something about this guy. He just finds open ice and puts himself in a position to tally points.
James Duthie gave a message to minor hockey parents on the Breakaway Podcast presented by CoachThem. https://bit.ly/2Jstzeg
What stands out for you in this sequence? I’ll discuss my view.
A lot of experience on this ice. Saturday skates will start again soon.
This! Congrats!
A great read. I’ll never forget the time I started coaching a major atom AAA team and the first thing I noticed was that they couldn’t pass a puck. Today, at the minor bantom level, we constantly focus on passing the puck with a purpose while now learning to create time and space. Take a couple minutes parents and players and enjoy.. The fundamental skill of passing the puck effectively, with purpose, and also with pace, is a lost art in hockey....Continue reading

Sunday morning warm up ...
Hello all, We hope everyone is staying safe during these times. We’ve had much interest in a D only development skate for A and AA players. As an update, we are holding out until we are certain there will be no further setbacks in the economy. If you are classified as A or AA in the 06,07,08 age group and would like to participate, please drop us a line and we will add you to our list. We will be going with a 12-15 player max. ... Thank you and feel free to share the post. See more
Remember how excited he would get every time he scored? The game lost a great contributor.

Gettin’ ready...
A great read. Feel free to discuss.
Hello all, Knowing the players are eager to get back on the ice, unfortunately we will not be starting back up until more information is solidified about a season starting. With that said, and if you’re looking for ice, please reach out to Cadotte Hockey Academy (https://www.cadottehockeyacademy.com/). Also, it’s strongly encouraged to have the players playing outdoor sports while the weather is nice. Pick up some clubs and try giving golf a go- if you haven’t already. We’ll be back out there soon enough! Stay safe.

A great guy and a great example of a transition from hockey life, to work life.

Hello all. Some of you have been messaging curious about our summer skate. As most of you know, Mark is on an incredible run with Flint and I myself am busy with our AAA group. As a heads up, Mark and I will be working on our program in the coming months. ... Our initial thought is a small, focused class size once a week during the summer. This will be an invite only class. Additionally, we’re looking into an open all day, one week camp in August to prep for the season. This will include two ice sessions and dry land with lunch and a fun activity at end of each day. We thank you for your patience and good luck the rest of the season/playoffs.

Times sure have changed since Sega’s NHL ‘94.
It’s a tough game...
Coaches, how are you handling line combination struggles mid season? Line chemistry is an important factor to any team’s long term success. To determine line chemistry, we need to pay attention to how teammates interact with each other. A major behavioural trait we look for is trust- and a first negative could be ‘looking off’ a line mate. A warning sign like this means we need to pay closer attention. But don’t PANIC. Before jumping the gun and changing lines, try some tru...st building on-ice drills. This should help build the communication and bring up trust levels. It’s a long season inside the looker room.

When your dad is a coach in the OHL...there's perks :) we may have temporarily lost one of the best trainers in the city, but Mark Ridout behind the bench, doing what he loves is priceless. #flintfirebirds #hockeybuddies #favoriteplayer
At this point in the season you should have a good idea of which direction your team is heading. If you’re not satisfied, trust your instincts as a coach and make the necessary changes. For example, start with your practice planning. Personally, I prefer to have a good 15 minutes of high intensity drills familiar to my players at the start of each practice. This allows my players to move with speed and not think. If your players aren’t thinking, they’re moving off instinct.... This is great for development. After which you can get their minds moving with systems while they’re still competing at the level you set at the start of practice. Give it shot and see how your practice can change. -Coach Best
