Delastpillow weighted blankets I wanted to talk about weighted blankets and how to safely used them so that they work. I worked closely with a team of Occupational Therapist before designing my weighted blankets. Weighted blankets should be between 10% - 15% total body weight but this is not for everyone. There are several other factors to be considered before choosing a weight. Please purchased from a licensed, insured and knowledgeable manufacturer of weighted blankets. ...Weighted inserts should be made with 100% cotton for breathability. Polyester fiber fill if used will add heat and not give breathability. A removable outer cover for easy washing. 1. Weighted blankets are made for the person and not the bed. Usual widths are between 35" to 42" and for clients that need a little more 50". It should be big enough to hug the person needing it. If it's too wide the weight is on the bed and not hugging the person. Too big the weight needed for deep pressure therapy will not be achieved. The weight calculated for the person will be on the bed and will not help. 2. Never share a weighted blanket, the weight needs to be evenly distributed throughout the blanket and hug the person using it accordingly to their needs. 3. Weighted blankets have so many benefits and work if used properly and if they are custom made for the person needing it. 4. Weighted blankets too heavy or too lite will not benefit and may cause harm to the individual. 5. Weighted blankets are not recommended for children under the age of 2 or individuals who cannot physically remove the blanket .
