Delong's Homestead 27.01.2021

Making conscious decisions on what you put in your body is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your family. Our family aims to grow and or at least source (locally if possible) quality food. Quality over quantity....... yes the struggle is real and yes it is worth it! At the end of August I underwent surgery and lost our baby. Although he made it against so many odds with a thriving heartbeat it is impossible to carry a baby long enough for it to s...urvive when it’s not in your uterus. It’s been a journey to process that, and only another mother could understand. Beyond the grief there were and are many other health hurdles I’ve had to deal with. I went for months not taking any vitamins at all because I didn’t realize it would take so many weeks until my hcg levels would be normal. As soon as I was able to we started our smoothies that I add our vitamins into according to each individuals weight. Life changing moment! I didn’t know how much I needed this until I went without. I can’t preach it and share it enough. I eat healthy..... healthier than I think the average person does and my body was still deficient. I share this for three reasons: 1) Awareness of what you are consuming is critical to your health 2) Source your food local The same cup of spinach or berries from your local farmer is more nutritionally dense than elsewhere. It’s not just about product, but how it was grown. If the ground is deficient in nutrients so will your food. (I get pretty excited that we have the ability to aid our ground with that ). 3) Because I care about you! Friends, family and strangers alike, I wouldn’t wish the symptoms I had on anyone. Your decisions today will define your tomorrow.

Mom come to the door you have a friend here? I ran and in walked Billy and Ingrid laughed. She’s trying to make our puppy Kya and Billy bond but it’s been unsuccessful at this point.

Tallow was one of the jars included in our Christmas baskets this year. It was once a staple used in so many homes and has been replaced with vegetable oils and butter. Oils all have their own unique qualities that can add to your life and this is one you don’t want to forget about. It is rich in nutrients and helps you absorb more nutrients in the other food you consume. Vitamins A, D, E, K and B1 are the stars in this stuff. It also reduces inflammation. Added bonus is the beautiful soap that can be made. We will have pint and quart size jars available soon as well as soap. Who’s interested in trying?

Your decisions today will define your tomorrow. There’s many things that excite me about our homeschool days and although it would be difficult to pick just one, yoga is definitely near the upper part of the list. We usually practice together once a day but over the last several weeks it’s becoming a regular request for more. A persons mind is powerful so make sure your feeding yours with positiveness and love. There is coming in the warmer months on our homestead and we are looking forward to sharing that love with you all! #thrivingnotsurviving #homeschool #momof4

Love this but not sure who they are talking about because my planning started during Christmas break. To plant a tiny seed, care for and reap the bounty is such a gift. What’s your favourite thing to grow? If you don’t grow a garden what are you looking to source local?
