Delta Community Animal Shelter 19.11.2020

On the twelfth day of Christmas, wee Adam wished for thee.. Twelve potential adopters... (But realistically, just one will do!)... We’ve come to the end of our 12 days of ‘Adam’, and sadly our little bun has had ZERO interest. After 1 year and 8.5 months in shelter, he is our longest term resident and for one reason or another, he has consistently been overlooked After being abandoned at a vet hospital while very sick, to living in a shelter environment for this long, we know Adam could not be more deserving of a wonderful and loving home these holidays! If you, or anyone you know, have been thinking about adopting a rabbit companion this holiday season, PLEASE consider Adam! There is truly no better gift he (or we!) could receive, than being able to give this bun a fresh start and a new home to call his own! If you can't adopt please SHARE, SHARE, SHARE #12DayOfChristmas #AdamEdition #OperationFindAdamAHome #SeekingAHomeForTheHolidays #Day12 #AdoptDontShop #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

On the eleventh day of Christmas wee Adam gave to thee.. Eleven dramatic ear flicks! Adam is quite the expressive character, and is always the first to let us know when he is an unhappy bunny! He’ll usually fold his ears down or dramatically flip them back and forth. If dinner is late, or his lettuce isn’t ‘crisp’ enough, this little bun will surely let you know it’s all in the ears!... If you are looking to add a little bit of a ‘drama queen’ of a bunny to your household, Adam might just be what you’ve been looking for! Contact the shelter today for more information, or SHARE to help find him his forever home! #12DaysOfChristmas #AdamEdition #OperationFindAdamAHome #Day11 #AdoptDontShop #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

From feral to friend.. barn cat to house cat! We received a wonderful update from our boy 'Pacman' who was adopted out, this summer! When he first came to us he was a very nervous, but gentle boy and we were unsure if he would ever be a house cat. His finders, and subsequently his adopters were happy to take him on as a barn cat, but low and behold, he turned around and decided that house cat life is where it's at! Some words from his adopters:... "Just wanted to give you an update on sweet PacMan! He has been moving around the rest of the house quite comfortably for a while now. He’s still timid of course especially if it's noisy, but is getting along well with all of the other cats. You were so right that he doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He loves going up to the other cats and cleaning them or just body rolls into them gently. He is truly the sweetest boy. Manchego is a bit cautious around him still but she’s the only one who doesn’t get in there and snuggle with him. They spend a lot of time watching each other quietly " #AdoptionUpdate #FeralToFriend #BarnCatToHouseCat #HappyEverAfter #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

Caring for animals is one thing, but our photography skills to put our animals in the best light takes time, patience, and a bit of ingenuity when all we have is a twig, a towel, and a smartphone. #DCAS #deltacommunityanimalshelter #DeltaBC #petphoography #rabbitsofinstagram #behindthescenes #glamshots #photoday #adoptdontshop #adoptablerabbit #Naveen

On the tenth day of Christmas we Adam asked for thee.. Ten hidey places! Like all rabbits, Adam likes to retreat and hide when he is unsure or nervous! After all, they are natural 'prey' animals. Therefore, we offer various different choices for him such as: a Hide n Perch box, a wooden hut, and wooden tunnels! He generally likes to spend his time hanging out in/on his Hide n Perch, as seen below!... Can you believe Adam is STILL here? We know we can't. If you're interested in adopting a spunky little rabbit, contact the shelter for more information! Adam is patiently waiting for YOU! #12DaysOfChristmas #AdamEdition #OperationFindAdamAHome #Day10 #AdoptDontShop #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

On the ninth day of Christmas, wee Adam gave to thee.. Nine cheeky thumps! Thumping is a behavior sometimes seen in rabbits to show their ‘annoyance’ or to alert of a danger however in Adams case, it is mostly to show his displeasure.. Adam is quite the cheeky bun, and isn’t afraid to let you know just how he feels about what you are or are not doing! ... If you don’t mind a little ‘sass’ and are looking for a small, furry critter to add to your home, then please consider our long-term resident Adam! He would be forever grateful to be home for the holidays! If not please SHARE! #12DayOfChristmas #AdamEdition #OperationFindAdamAHome #Day9 #AdoptDontShop #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

We asked and our community came through! A few days ago we asked for more of the Turkey and Cheese dinner from Friskies for our sensitive girl Smudge. We wanted to give an extra big shout out to one giver who went above and beyond and not only donated goodies for Smudge but also wrote us a comic book! How cool! Sweet Smudge was a little too shy to pose for the camera with all her goodies but she sends a BIG thank you to her supporter. Our community continues to amaze us and all the staff and all the animals say THANK YOU! #Smudge #Comicbookfun #Donations #Ourcommunityrocks! #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

1 YEAR ADOPTION UPDATE! We just received a wonderful update from our bonded pair of kittens Sidney and Prescott, who were adopted out just over a year ago! Their adopters report the two of them are so much fun and easy-going! They have the most fun with random items (mostly from the recycling bin).. and their toy of choice happens to be the green plastic sticks they put in the Starbucks cup lids!... Sidney loves to hide in bags and her brother tries his best to copy in a 'not so stealth' way. As it turns out, Prescott is not a big fan of treats, however really seems to enjoy Rice Krispies! These two are peas in a pod and can always be found sleeping together, grooming each other or having late night discussions! Their adopter reports that the bond the share is truly amazing to watch. We couldn't be happier to hear how well they have been doing in their home this past year, and always love getting updates like these! #AdoptionUpdate #1year #HappilyEverAfter #BondedPair #AdoptDontShop #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

Did you know November is 'Adopt A Senior Pet' month!? And guess what? We may just have the purrfect match for you! Meet Lucy! This sweet, senior gal has sadly found herself back at the shelter for the second time now in the past 4 years. Unfortunately, due to her older age and her hard of hearing, she is quite the 'yowler' at night, which has proven to be difficult for previous owners to deal with.... Although she can be vocal at times, Lucy is truly an absolute sweetheart and loves to be cuddled, petted and brushed! Her most favorite past time though, would have to be napping - as she can usually be found curled up in one of her many beds! Don't let her age deter you, because other than a twice a day pain/anti-anxiety medication, Lucy has a clean bill of health, with perfect bloodwork and sparkly clean teeth from her dental! This lady is as ready as ever to find her special retirement home! If you or someone you know would be willing to open your home up to a lovely senior, we know Lucy would be forever grateful! #AdoptASenior #SeniorPetMonth #Lucy #AdoptDontShop #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

On the eighth day of Christmas wee Adam asked for thee.. Eight cardboard chew toys! Along with chewing on hay, Adam also enjoys chewing on cardboard! We give our bunnies cardboard toys such as toilet rolls and egg cartons (sometimes even stuffed with hay) to provide enrichment and help keep their teeth in tip top shape! As you can see in the clip below, Adam thoroughly enjoys picking them up and chucking them!... Our sweet and sassy boy is still here and still waiting for his perfect forever family to come sweep him off his fuzzy feet and take him home for the holidays! Have you met Clancy? Clancy came to us as a stray that was likely born outside. He was very skittish and nervous. It took one of our volunteers over a month to finally be able to trap him. Once he was in our care he was lucky enough to be able to stay at a staff members house for some TLC and socialization. In just a few weeks he quickly learned that people were a really good thing. He is now fully litter box trained and will thump if he’s being ignored for too long. Clancy a...bsolutely loves his food and would be a really good candidate to clicker train. This young, sweet rabbit can’t wait to hop his way into your heart. If Clancy sounds like he might be a match for you please email us at [email protected]. Slow socialization pays off! These two pigeons came in to us as strays. Viola arrived in July and was not very friendly. She was very nervous and would charge at people when they got too close. A few months later we got Tobiko. He was isolated for a few weeks while we treated him for lice. Since both these birds had been living by themselves for a little bit, it was important to do a slow introduction to a new bird. We put the kennels in the same room and slowly moved them ...closer until they were side by side. At first the birds would spend time away from each other but overtime we saw them starting to hang out at the fence with each other. Once we put them together, they quickly bonded. They can almost always be found sitting beside each other. This seemed to boost Violas confidence and now she is much friendlier with people. This dynamic duo are ready to take flight on to their next adventure together! If you are looking to adopt, please contact the shelter at 604-940-7111. If you can’t adopt, please share! #DeltaBC #AdoptDelta #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter

It's Tollie Fund Tuesday, and boy do we have some wonderful news to share with you! Our senior, diabetic boy 'Smokey' has left the building and is off to his foster to adopt home! After 9 long months of being at the shelter, and always being overlooked due to his age and medical, we could not be happier he has finally found his person! Sometimes a little patience goes a long way, and that was definitely the case here. His new dad has had diabetic kitties in the past, so we kn...ow our sweet, Smokey is in the best possible hands! Introducing Tollie Fund Recipient. Lola! Lola is a 2 year old, short hair female who arrived at our shelter suffering from a severe case of pancreatitis likely from stress and an inconsistent diet. Thanks to our Tollie Fund and her amazing vet care from Tsawwassen Animal Hospital, Lola has recovered and was recently been spayed. Lola is still eating a special gastro dry diet and some plain cooked chicken to keep her tummy happy, and although we have hopes to get her on a mo...re regular diet in the future, Lola is pretty set in her ways and knows what she likes and doesn’t like! We’re happy to report Lola is not on any ongoing medication. Lola can be shy at first but don’t be fooled, she still has a lot of young kitten tendencies. Lola loves to chase the feather wand and is quite agile this little lady isn’t afraid to climb up onto shoulders when her foster family is bending down. Lola is looking for: 1. A cat experienced home with a family who has a good relationship with their vet and will ensure her health into the future. 2. A stable, stress free, indoor only home. A calm environment will help to keep Lola’s pancreatitis at bay. 3. No young children or dogs, but we suspect Lola could do well with another well matched cat in the home. #Lola #AdoptDontShop #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

Meet Your Match Monday! Our handsome boy, Maverick, is still here in search for his forever family to come in and swoop him off his paws! As you can tell, Halloween is kind of his favorite.. so if you too, like to get in the festive spirit and are looking for that special someone to share your life with, than look no further! Maverick is a gentle and loving soul and would love nothing more then to spend his free time curling up on the couch and watching Netflix with you. H...e can be a little shy at first, but with some soft words and gentle coaxing he’ll surely right up in your lap, purring up a storm in no time at all. This sensitive boy can be easily spooked by loud noises or new things therefore a calm and quieter home (without young kids) would be more his alley! Maverick has developed a condition called FLUTD in the form of an irritated bladder, so a stress-free home all to himself to keep his bladder happy is a MUST! But we hope that doesn’t change your opinion, because so far our little house panther has been doing great with a proper diet and some medication! If this beautiful boy seems like a match for you, contact the shelter today for more information! #MeetYourMatchMonday #Maverick #BlackCatsRule #HalloweenCat #AdoptDontShop #DCAS #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #DeltaBC

Another happy adoption day! You may remember sweet Violet. Soft as velvet and the cutest face. Well, after her first adoption she made it very clear that she wanted to be the only rabbit in the home and did not enjoy having to share her space with the resident rabbit. It can be upsetting to see an animal be returned-but this is valuable information that helped us match Violet with a home that will set her up for success. It did not take long for someone to fall in love with ...her and she was re adopted! We have our paws crossed that this adoption is a success for Violet. Her new family was so excited to take her home. We cannot wait for updates on this lovely girl and receive lots of new photos! DCAS is so happy to see another one of our animals going home. Yay for Violet! #Rabbitsrock #Somebunnytolove #Adoptionday #DCAS #DeltaBC #DeltaCommunityAnimalShelter #Adoptionrules

Currently we have a few extra special kittens looking for extra special homes. Please read these posts thoroughly before applying as only appropriate homes will be considered. Lone-Ranger: Tommy. ... Tommy was born in May 2020, alongside his siblings Merlin and Mila in an overcrowded home. They were surrendered with their mom to the BCSPCA and joined us to move into one of our foster homes to socialize. Tommy was initially a tough cookie to crack, he was the most stand-offish and defensive of all his siblings. Since being in foster for over a month, Tommy has finally learned to trust his foster family and is turning into a confident little cuddle bug. Tommy loves toys and will even play fetch with his little stuffed toys. Despite loving his foster family, Tommy is still very suspicious of new people and likely won’t be the social butterfly at family gatherings. He prefers his small space where he feels safest and can become overwhelmed in large areas. This kitten is looking for: 1. Indoor only home would likely thrive in an apartment or condo setting. 2. Adult only, cat experienced home. No children unfortunately as Tommy has been known to nip when he’s scared. 3. Ideally no other animals, but could consider a resident cat if well-matched. If you’re interested in our handsome lone-ranger Tommy, please email us for an adoption application today: [email protected]
