Honouring the Eelunaapeewi Lahkeewiit men and women who served in the international conflicts At the time of the World Wars, the Eelunaapeewi Lahkeewiit warriors were exempt from conscription because our people were not considered citizens of Canada and did not have the right to vote. Like other First Nations’ men and women, the racism and the segregation of colonialism also did not deter the Lunaapeew men and women from volunteering to fight. They, too, served as snipers..., reconnaissance scouts, sappers, paratroopers, pilots, nurses and the indigenous languages code talkers. This is their land, and they felt it was the right thing to do . . . To protect Turtle Island and the freedoms we enjoy today. To this day, we honour our great grandfathers, our grandfathers/grandmothers, our fathers/mothers, our brothers/sisters and our uncles/aunts who have served and especially to those who have fallen in battle. They do the Eelunaapeewi Lahkeewiit proud! On behalf of the Council and its Education department, attached is the Eelunaapeewi Lahkeewiit (Delaware Nation) Remembrance Day video messaging made for the Nahii Ridge Elementary and Ridgetown Secondary students who are not able to join us (due to the covid pandemic) in honouring and paying tribute to our veterans spanning from the War of 1812 to the Afghanistan conflicts.

EELNAAPÉEWI LAHKÉEWIIT - SCAVENGER HUNT 2020 A community scavenger hunt was held on Saturday August 29, 2020. Most scavenger hunts take place indoors or close to home. Our Education and Health Departments took scavenging to a whole new level. In order to maintain social distancing while still in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, they planned a fun outdoor activity that involved the kids, teens, adults, parents and grandparents and utilized the entire community of Eel...naapéewi Lahkéewiit. 2 to 4 people teamed up in a golf cart to collect as many items scattered throughout the community. Despite the theft of three golf carts early Saturday morning, the day’s activities went ahead as planned. All families, friends, relatives, co-workers had fun and loved the day’s adventure. Thank you to the Education and Health staff for the creativity. Thank you to all who participated. The Community Scavenger Hunt was a success! See more
