Why do all old time boxers stand like that? Here is a good video that I saw recently trying to explain why boxers stood with the hands low, left hand stretched out pose. It goes into some bare knuckle techniques as well as talks about the evolution into the more modern form we are used to with the introduction of gloves.

March 16 2019 - Garcia vs Spence This is a fight I am really excited about. Garcia is a very respected, very smart tactician who has been moving up in weight. He is challenging Spence, a very big, very aggressive, and very talented fighter. Memories of Napoles vs Monzon? Who's watching?!

Nicolino Locche - "El Intocable" Have I done a post on Locche before? If not it was an oversight. He was an Argentine light welterweight who held the title from 1968 to 1972 and cited as one of the finest defensive fighters of all time. Watching the video reminded me very much of Pernell Whitaker. Great balance and economy of motion. As per Wikipedia:... "Numerous Argentine sources also cite the fact that Locche's approach towards submitting himself to traditional boxing training and discipline was sometimes lackadaisical. For example, Locche was a known habitual cigarette smoker throughout most if not all of his boxing career and his adherence to the strict dietary requirements of his trade was often quite flexible. It was not unusual to see his seconds crowd around him during the 1 minute break between rounds where he would be puffing furiously on a cigarette."

November 7 2018 Inoue vs Payano It has been a long while since I have posted anything but I wanted to put this up for anyone who might still be around. Remember Naoya Inoue (The Monster)? He is in the Bantamweight version of the super six. He started his career at flyweight (112 lbs) and has been making his way up to bantamweight (118 lbs). As always there is the question as to whether power can follow you when you go up in weight. He was fighting a former champion who h...as never been stopped. In any event, the question is answered in 2 minutes. Physics: "You are the smaller guy, you have to be planted for power. And whatever you do, line him up, don't punch across your body!" Inoue: "Hey Physics, hold my beer."

End of an Era. Thanks to everyone who was part of the Denman Fight Fans family. It was a lot of fun and I miss it everyday (not the getting punched in the face, but all the other stuff).
