Happy December! It's finally here, the final month of a crazy year! We hope you were able to check off your resolutions and crush your 2020 goals! If getting your oral health on track was one of these goals, it's not too late! We still have room in our schedule for new or existing clients!

The Dental Hygiene Group 18.11.2020

It's tough to ensure a personal connection through all the additional PPE required these days, so it's really nice to know that clients can still sense this from us. Thank you for your kind review.

Amazing deal on a great brush! If you have been thinking about getting into an electric brush or looking for a Christmas gift, this is a great price point. $59.97 Oral-B Pro 3000 Studies have shown the benefits of electric toothbrushes vs. manual brushes for the reduction of plaque and gingivitis. If you are looking for an electric brush there are a few key features we love:... 2 minute timer pressure sensor rechargeable vs. battery selection of replaceable heads Generally for an entry level brush we recommend the Oral-B Pro 2000 as it checks off these boxes at a lesser price point. Currently Walmart is featuring the Oral-B Pro 3000 for less than the 2000! This brush has all the same features in addition to an extra brush head, sensitive brushing setting, and a stand that holds the brush heads. https://www.walmart.ca//oral-b-pro-3000-gum-/6000201725255

We’ve all been spending more time with our own breath these days. Have you noticed a consistent bad odor coming from yours? Are you chewing more gum or eating mints to try to hide the smell? While these are good temporary measures, they will do nothing to fix the problem. There are lots of things that could be causing this, and it’s important to get to the bottom of it. It could be a simple case of being overdue for your dental hygiene visit, or needing to amp up your homeca...re game, or it could be a sign of something more serious like cavities, infections or gum diseases. Visiting a Registered Dental Hygienist is a great place to start. At the DHG your visits always include: Dental hygiene exam to check the health of your gums and surrounding tissue as well as an oral cancer screening and digital pictures Professional cleaning to remove plaque, tartar, biofilm and stain Personalized home care instructions and recommendations so you can better care for your mouth at home Referrals to other professionals as needed We welcome new clients and have enhanced PPE and protocols in place to keep everyone safe. Bad breath is an awkward subject but we are here to help! Our 30 min consults are always free and we are happy to answer any questions you may have. Together we can make mask mouth a thing of the past! Booking online is easy, use the book now button 24/7 or send us a message.

Exciting plans this weekend? Probably not, as here in Toronto we have been instructed to do our part and stay home. But did you know that dental hygiene is an integral part of your overall health so we encourage you to not put it off. Need an appointment? Hannah is welcoming new or existing clients and has 2 appointments left tomorrow. The beauty with a Saturday visit is that you can park outside on the street to lessen the risk of running into anyone in the parking garage! ... Here at the DHG we have enhanced protocols in place to keep you safe and minimize any exposure to others, this includes a sufficient wait time between clients so you will not run into anyone, in fact, you and your dental hygienist will be the only people in the office. If you have concerns or questions please contact us directly. To snag one of the remaining appointments tomorrow, use the online schedule https://DHGonlinebooking.as.me/?calendarID=4338328 message us or give us a call 416-799-8344

WRONG. Being cavity-free does not ensure you that your gums are not prone to gum related diseases. In fact, gum diseases are the #1 reason adults loose teeth. Gum disease is usually painless, and most people have no idea that they are having issues. Contributing factors include: Poor home care Tobacco us... Poor diet Stress. Avoiding preventative dental care (aka: cleanings) A thorough examination by a Registered Dental Hygienist can reveal the health status of your mouth and help develop a treatment plan to ensure healthy gums for a lifetime! We love welcoming new clients and introducing them to a unique dental hygiene experience! Look forward to a spa-like setting, limited waiting room time, a bamboo toothbrush with every dental hygiene visit, and enhanced covid-19 protocols. How it works: clients visit one of our amazing registered dental hygienists for preventive dental care (ex. cleanings) and then visit their dentist separately for exams, xrays and treatment as required. Don’t have a dentist? That’s ok, we can refer you to one in the area. I keep seeing ads for this tool so I thought I would analyze the associated images. Please don't be fooled, this tool is neither safe nor effective. Check out our IGTV video for a comparison of this tool to a professional ultrasonic. https://www.instagram.com/tv/CGVJXFpJBoY/

Here in Ontario Dental Hygiene is NOT included in the shutdowns announced today. Why? Because we are not a personal care service, we are a health care service! Dental and dental hygiene clinics are deemed a safe environment with very low risk of infection. ... Also, as a Regulated Health Practitioner (RHP), we, along with all other RHP’s (Massage therapists, Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Dentists, etc.) have been exempt from stage 2 closures since June. We all have governing bodies that set out VERY clear directives to be followed in order to see clients safely. While our return to work guidelines that were developed in collaboration with Public Health and the Ministry of Health include additional measures to ensure safety, we as dental professional already have a robust understanding of disease transmission and extensive knowledge in: infection control instrument reprocessing aerosol reduction techniques cross-contamination and now HVAC and air exchange This expertise along with enhanced PPE allows us to continue to confidently treat you during these uncertain times. This means that you don’t have to put off your dental hygiene visit! There is a systemic link between your mouth and health conditions such as: heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, pre-term births and much more. Remember, keeping your mouth healthy helps to keep your whole body healthy. Yours and our safety is our #1 priority. If you have any questions or concerns about our updated safety protocols please reach out directly.

Thanksgiving is going to look very different this year in my house, but there is still so much to be thankful for! I am very happy to have internet access so I can still see my family even if it's not around the same table and I look forward to the extra day off! What are you grateful for?

Celiac Disease can affect the development of adult teeth. "Enamel defects and damage were found in over 55% of children with CD" More proof that the mouth is connected to the rest of the body and many symptoms present in the mouth. Tag your favourite Etobicoke small business. Did you know that most independent dental hygiene clinics are owned by solo-preneurs? That's right. The DHG is in fact a small business. With just 1 owner (Corinne) that does everything from dental hygiene duties to cleaning the toilets and 1 other part time dental hygienist (Hannah) we are only a team of 2.... How did COVID affect us? Like many small businesses we were closed completely for 4 months, and had to invest a lot of capital into becoming compliant for re-opening. Just as we were getting back on track the impending second wave has people being extra cautious (for obvious reasons), so we are definitely feeling a bit of uneasiness about the future. We are not looking for sympathy, we know that there are others that have suffered much more than us. Instead, we want to say thank you to our community and to everyone that has and continues to support small business. This year has been a great reminder of why we love Etobicoke! We have been here for over 7 years and have always felt a sense of community. We want to spread some love for some other small businesses in the area. if there is a small business that you love here in Etobicoke that could use some extra support via purchasing, social media follows or anything else please tag them in the comments!

Now that we are back to work we are reminded that in the dental world we don't often see traditional "breaks" Quite often we snack between clients or realize at 3:00 that all we've had is coffee....oops! We surely can't be the only ones that have jobs like this, and if this sounds like you here are some great tips of some healthy things to have on hand on those days you need to eat what and when you can! https://www.todaysrdh.com/5-snack-ideas-for-a-busy-day-in/

All done!! CPR certified for another year!! AND I was joined by a fellow DHPO - Dental Hygiene Practitioners of Ontario board member Kim Murray from Hanover Dental Hygiene Care COVID has us doing all sorts of weird stuff but CPR in the rain was certainly interesting. It was chilly and damp but a good time. Thanks Monica from HeartBeatz you did a great job!

THIS!! Chances are you are using too much toothpaste. Adults as well as kids that can brush and rinse well unsupervised only need a pea sized amount of paste! In fact, if you are using too much paste you may be tricking yourself into thinking you’ve done a good job as your mouth will feel fresh even if you’ve missed some spots. Why do ads depict the use of a long ribbon of paste? Because it sells, it looks pretty, and if you use that much you will use up the product 3-4x faster thereby needing to buy more quicker. Don’t like toothpaste? Dry brush. Using water or a mouthrinse for a bit of flavor and fluoride application is really all you need. It’s the physical act of brushing away plaque and biofilm that is the most important. But be sure to always use a soft or extra soft toothbrush.

Yes, I am proud of the hard work it took to get all of that stain and tartar off. But do you know what I'm even more proud of? This client who has decided to quit smoking and work on getting their oral and overall health in better shape! ... I am also happy that here at the DHG we have opted to follow the highest level of infection control protocols post COVID. By enclosing our rooms, testing our HVAC and increase our between client time we are not restricted to hand scaling only and can continue to offer the highest level of dental hygiene care! Some of the benefits of using an ultrasonic include: Irrigate bacteria from below the gum line Quickly and effectively remove stain Remove biofilm to help in the reduction of inflammation Reduce tissue trauma created by the manual removal of heavy deposits Create a more comfortable, less painful experience for our clients. I am always grateful when someone trusts me to help get them onto a path to better health and will NEVER judge their current condition. It's my goal to help you reach your goals in the most comfortable way possible! It's never too late to see a registered dental hygienist!
