I think what motivates me most to get a particular task done like sharpening tools, or skiing a certain distance for example is telling myself before the task, "ok, how sharp and shiny can I get this knife from what it was when given to me?" or...."how quick can I ski this trail today?" I guess I like that crowning moment of "Ah ha, I did it!" I like the 'wow factor' just as much as my customers do. Those moments are great motivators to keep us pushing onward to be better each time. Improving. If I can use a saying that "hind sight is 20/20..or 20-20. or 2020" then last year was definitely a motivator for Deo to look back and think..."how can I make 2021 ...or yet myself better than last year?" Sharp and shiny at the end of the finish line I hope.

Sharpening edge tools as well as grinding and polishing involve many of the same equipment and techniques. The 2021 new year will bring some new services to Waterstone Sharpening line. Here's a few just mention.... -drill bit sharpening -watch/glass/bezel scratch repair..unfortunately I'm not sure if iphone glass can be done without interfering with the "touch screen" feature. I have an older iphone 4s that I will try and see how it turns out.

Apparently one of my sharpening/polishing machines is capable of removing scratches from plastic and plexiglass. I have in the photo a lens from a magnifying cap with a nasty scratch. That I will attempt to remove without altering the glass much. Stay tuned!

I will always wear appropriate PPE, personal protective equipment. You only have one set of eyes, ears etc. In my current job with my sharpening business the risk of cutting yourself is very evident and highly probable. The risk from dust exposure in grinding and polishing are quite high however reduced with use of efficient dust extraction and masks (go figure). This post is about another risk from moving machinery. Most of my equipment has varible speed control and I still ...wear a mask and eye protection. The bench grinder was one that is just plain scary. I have had no issues or close calls to date and edge on the side of caution. However, I have already had 2 dreams/nightmares that have woken me up of exactly the same nature and that is a grinder wheel mishap that explodes or catches a tool and throws it across the room both with potential for damage to property or life and limb! I didn’t hesitate one bit and here’s the best face shield ever. Protection, impact resistant. Clear view, breathable and very comfortable to wear. Worth every cent. FYI. bench grinders move at extremely high speed. Dangerous. Don’t take risks and get proper training. See more

I think it's funny when I meet people and we talk about sharpening knives or scissors. I tell them that I own a business of professionally sharpening edge tools. They proceed to tell me that they sharpen their own either with a steel (not for sharpening really but deburring), or some $80 gadget they purchased. I've own many of those inexpensive gadgets prior to opening my business, in hope of getting knives and scissors to a sharpness that would last longer than one carrot... before going dull again. The knife would get thrown into the back of the drawer, I would go in search for yet another knife worse than the previous. How do you spell FRUSTRATION? I have spent a lot of money to buy the best sharpening equipment I could afford to ensure that I have at hand what I need to offer great customer service, easily, quickly with professional results. I like satisfied customers. Don't people think if I could run a professional business with only a $30 dollar tool, I would? Wow! Imagine the savings. LOL. Honestly, leave frustration in the back of the drawer! See more
