This is the type of necessary Court challenge that Legal Aid Funding allows for. Carding (random police stops based on racial identification) is abhorrent and contrary to Canadian and Albertan values. Allowing the practice to continue weakens our society as it pushes indigenous people and other visible minorities to the margins and sends a strong message that they are not part of "mainstream" Alberta/Canadian society. By facilitating challenges to practices like this, Legal Aid sends a strong message of inclusivity and strengthens our society. http://www.cbc.ca//racial-profiling-carding-alberta-1.4308

The Management at Legal Aid does not appear to realize that, by creating a multi-tiered legal services access system that entrenches access to different levels of service based on different socio-economic circumstances, what is becoming most vulnerable is Alberta itself. http://edmontonjournal.com//paula-simons-legal-aid-demand-

Despite no political experience, no significant leadership experience, and precious little legal experience (certainly none I would characterize as significant), Ms. Ganley was appointed to handle one of the most important, largest, and most challenging portfolios in our government. She has coasted rather under the radar since taking the helm, and so doubtlessly benefitted considerable from the benefit of the doubt--many Albertans, myself included, were excited to see the N...DP assume government, and not only needed, but wanted Ms. Ganley to exceed her qualifications. We have to be honest, however: not only has she failed in the sense of not meeting expectations, she has failed in the sense that she had not even shown up. Failure can be entirely honourable and noble if one has inserted oneself into the struggle and a truly engaged effort has been made. Ms. Ganley has not done this, and we must move on. https://twitter.com/derekcrimlaw/status/881315102917509120
