Designer Girl Interiors

International Women's Day. I've never spoken about it before, but today I feel compelled to do so. Maybe it's because the theme this year is: Women in leadership - achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world. I was told over 20 years ago after a work skills assessment that I was a leader and would be at my best in that career role. Who...me? The teacher assured me that he was absolutely certain. Well, those who know me know I do love a challenge! Today I am proud to be a bu...siness owner and that I have built my interior design firm on my own but with the support of many. I work in the construction of new homes and new multi-homes which is a very male dominated industry so I had to work extra hard to prove that I was not only capable of using a measuring tape, but that I had good ideas to improve the product that we were all creating together. I treated my colleagues with respect and learned everything I could about construction, and in a very short time I was accepted and respected by every one of them. I love my work and am so grateful for the opportunity that came my way. Perhaps never so grateful as this past year during the pandemic when so many people lost their jobs and their sense of worth. I don't know what is next for me in life, but I've learned to just let it take me where I'm supposed to go. I am a woman, but I am at my best as a person who cares about others and wants to do the best job possible in everything I do. My message to others: Yes you can. Not to try is to fail. Oh, and that teacher?
