I handle things a fair bit different than that, but I guess you COULD do it that way...
Have a job you need done right? Hire a professional, like Nic at Details Carpentry and Renovation Services!
This client contacted me to design and build a built in for their front entryway closet based on something shed loved from Pinterest... I really love these jobs, and I love how this one turned out...
This job involved removing the existing siding and tar paper, and bringing it up to date with an engineered home wrap, exterior insulation, and new siding... including an amazing artificial stone product. I love the way this one looks, and happy to have worked with these clients again.
I'm also getting around to getting all "Google-y", ;) https://g.page/details-carpentry-renovation-s?gt
I was welcomed back to install a window and door for a couple that had me do their kitchen earlier... an awesome bay window for above the sink and a garden door to replace the old ones... as well as custom trim to match the custom design of the kitchen. Well see these again from the outside when I post pictures of their siding install from later in the year...
Another great project for another great family... the clients bought a property that was... poorly treated by some renters beforehand... carpet throughout with heavy pet stains, damage to trim, drywall, and a safety railing that only took a simple bump to fall apart. Consulting with the client, I removed all the carpet, remediated the lingering pet stains, installed a glue-down application of Luxury Vinyl Plank on the majority of the floors throughout, repaired and repainted the trim, and added two bannisters to secure the railing... as well as repairing some drywall from a plumbing leak discovered in the process of the work. I love the durability and look of Luxury Vinyl Plank.
I always enjoy a small project to break up the bigger jobs... for this one, a repeat client wanted a simple laundry/storage cabinet with shelves and storage to help make their laundry room work better... we developed a design that worked, and I built and installed it. Nothing crazy, but sometimes getting away from framing is a great break... built ins are fun, !
For this job, the client had an arborite countertop that was separating, had an outdated edging, and had steam damage and water damage to some of their cabinet doors... I sanded and repaired the cabinet doors, and we selected an arborite pattern they liked, as well as a Bullnose edging from Formicas IdealEdge lineup, and the results were amazing... I rarely like the edging from prefab countertops(or the built in backsplash), and the IdealEdge really does provide a virtually seamless edge... I loved doing this job for this client, and working with the IdealEdge was great... looking forward to working with it again for clients that want the granite look without the cost(about 1/2 that of a similar granite top).
Wow... this past year has gone so well, Ive totally neglected the Facebook page. Now that its in the slower part of my year, Ill have to fix that up and get things caught up over the next few days... thanks everyone for helping make it a great and productive year!
BRRR, it is cold out there! Nic at Details Carpentry would like to help you keep the warmth inside... for as little as $40, Nic can have your exterior door back in shape and keeping the cold where it belongs... OUTSIDE... Call, text, or FB message for more information or to book an appointment now.
Heres a scratch built, custom door built to size for a client earlier this month... just another service Im happy to provide, !
An old table with barely and finish left... stripped down and made like new...
Here's a few shots of a countertop I replaced, as well as the new backsplash that I installed. Awesome tile choice!
Here's a custom bedframe I designed and built for a very important client, ;)
This kitchen had new lights installed and needed drywall work to the ceiling, as well as a small cabinet modification, and new paint. I was happy to oblige, :) .
A custom shelf for under the stairs, some custom trim, a new door, and some drywall work made this basement a seamless completion to the bathroom that I did for this newlywed couple.
A nice young couple approached me with a quick job... a closet before Christmas to replace the one that used to be there... I doubt I'm a saint, but I am Nic, and it was done before Christmas, ;). (Paint to be done by homeowners)
Here's some pictures of a front entry I did for a couple in Ross Glen... Ditra underlayment for crack prevention and stability, a nice durable porcelain tile for longevity.
Merry Christmas from Details Carpentry & Renovation Services! Thanks to wonderful clients past, present, and future for making 2018 another successful and productive year possible.
Craftsman and Mission are my two favourite styles to work in... simple shapes, bold lines... and a warm, welcoming oak colour all come together in this custom designed, handcrafted kitchen. A wonderful kitchen for a wonderful family... what can Details do for you?

This bathroom upgrade was done for a wonderful couple buying a new home in Medicine Hat that wanted to make their home their own. Featuring a doorless custom shower, heated tile floor, custom cabinetry, granite vanity countertop with undermount sink, and an open concept, this job turned out beautifully. Congratulations to the happy couple on their new home, and heres to many years of enjoying their custom ensuite, !
Ill be getting some pictures up of the bigger projects Ive been working on this year shortly, but in the meantime, heres look at a chair repair I did yesterday afternoon: some wiggly legs caused by poor design choices... the nuts that held the legs on were designed to go on the same side as the bolts, leading to inevitable pull out when the friction between the nuts and legs wore the wood down... please excuse my rambling in the comments; I was shocked to see something built this way, .
I made this coffee table/Lego table for my son for Christmas... having a coffee just now and processing that, while I had my fair share of Lego growing up, my son has ALOT more... so much so that building had became a chore for him, fishing through deep piles of it for anything. Glad to see that the spirit of building re-ignited in him with some organization and dedicated space to build. You cant tell from this picture, but the top hides 6 of storage for those models you just cant stand to take apart yet/ somewhere to stash everything when companys coming and the Lego city needs to turn into a coffee table.
First draft of an idea Im working on with a client... custom jobs are fun,
I had the pleasure of working with a couple to design and build a custom mudroom bench and coat rack a few weeks ago... design and build by Details, paint and stain by homeowner... Just a few spots left before Christmas for projects like these!
Well, I've finally been able to update a good chunk of what I've been up to since early May... it's been a busy summer, of which I'm very thankful for... a few small jobs missing from this, and one large one... I was lucky enough to land the millwork contract for two big box stores at the Mall redevelopment in June/July, and am proud of the work we did there. It's common policy for commercial sites to limit posting of pictures online of sites in construction, so I won't be po...sting pictures of that job, but essentially I took on two close friends/relatives as subs and we did the millwork for Homesense and Marshalls. I hope this finds you all well... things continue to go well, and I appear to be booking into December now, with a few quotes to hear back from that will carry me into January. Thanks again, for all the support, I'm truly honoured by the work that's came my way since starting up in January, - Nic
This bathroom was originally very small and had a very low ceiling, and hadn't been useable in years due to a failing shower pan and leaking shower walls. I gutted the walls, reframed to make better use of the space and was able to turn a very small bathroom into a nicely sized space. Walk in style shower, and niche that wraps around the corner... I love the way it turned out.
