There’s no shortage of passion or conversation around Peggy’s Cove lately. We’re grateful for all who engaged with us, sent feedback, and shared their thoughts and ideas for the future of this extra-special community! To recap: the Viewing Deck is a key piece of a comprehensive master plan focused on creating a safe, inclusive, and accessible visitor experience in Peggy’s Cove. ... this project will reclaim the space of arrival at Peggy’s Covetransforming it from a place for cars to a place for everyone. And, we have some updates to share with you: PUBLIC INFO SESSION We hosted a virtual public information session earlier this month to walk folks through the long-term planning, development, and engagement work Develop Nova Scotia has been leading in Peggy’s Cove since 2018. A full written transcript of the Question & Answer portion is coming within days. In the meantime, a full recording of that session is available here: https://youtu.be/AcUwGS7ENiY FUTURE ENGAGEMENT There will be more opportunities for public engagement with this work as we move forward. We will continue to welcome feedback and input andif there is a compelling reason to make adjustmentswe will. Our approach to engagement will always be community-first, but we recognize we need to work harder to reach residents in the area and Nova Scotians at large. And we will. VIEWING DECK UPDATES The tender for the Viewing Deck was awarded this week to Trim Landscaping Inc. From here, we’ll work with our project partners and community members to finalize the site plan and prep and get to work on construction with the goal to complete this part of the work by June 2021. The new Viewing Deck in Peggy’s Cove includes a new accessible public washroom, which was tendered for construction this week. This construction is just the beginning and there will be more opportunities to engage with the Peggy’s Cove Project and provide feedback as the work unfolds. For our part, we will continue to collaborate with and listen to community, key stakeholders, and the general public. For more information on the Peggy’s Cove Project and these tenders visit: https://developns.ca/projects/peggys-cove-master-plan/ Images: 1 - rendering of Viewing Deck from arrival at accessible washroom entrance 2 - before picture of Peggy’s Cove

Queer visibility is queer vitality. There is a difference between you are welcome and this place was created with you in mind. Margot Durling, Artist Representation matters. Celebrating and evidencing the diverse identities of our community in public spaces is vital. And working with community to make that happen is the only way to do it right. ... Last week, we were overjoyed to witness the unveiling of Chosen Familya permanent public art installation on the Halifax Common that celebrates the kinship between LGBTQ2+ people and brings more visibility to the community. Remembrance Day is going to look different this year, but what remains is the opportunity to think about and appreciate those who sacrificed so much for us.
