We are often asked what the best temperature is for serving wines. Of course we are accustomed to enjoying our white wines chilled but with the wonderful summer season finally here the temperature of red wine becomes more of a concern. Unless you have a wine fridge, cool cellar or run your air conditioner to the max ~ red wines at room temperature may be quite warm which effects their flavours and bouquet. As an alternative, try chilling your red wine for half an hour then... decant at your table for 15 minutes to see how this changes your experience. To protect wine’s flavours and aromas the attached chart offers some suggestions on just how cool to chill your white, red & blush wines. It also reassures our friends who seem embarrassed to confess they prefer their red wines from the fridge regardless of the season. There are many wines that benefit from chilling ~ whites, blushes as well as lighter weight reds especially for serving in the heat on the patio, deck or dock. It is also interesting that the chart also considers the weight of the white wines in suggesting serving temperature with the lighter whites served colder than a substantial Chardonnay, for example. This sounds like a fun project to determine at what temperature you will best enjoy your favourite wines. We have the perfect gadget should you want to do the research. It has always been the DeVine Wines philosophy that everyone’s tastes are different and there is no wrong answer when it comes to wine. You should proudly enjoy your wine ~ your way! A final note on temperature bottled wine will spoil quickly in high heat. Please don’t store your wines in the hot garage or hot cottage. Transporting your wine in a hot trunk to the cottage is sufficient time for it to spoil. Protect your wines by storing or transporting in an air conditioned or cool environment. Have a super summer! Oh boy ... Mom will be sooo pleased !!!

I haven’t baked a cake in a very, very loooong time but I was intrigued & inspired by this cake recipe with a substantial amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. It is super simple and simply amazing! We doubled the glaze (probably not necessary but definitely delicious!) and put the glaze in the fridge for a few minutes to help it set. Of course, we served it with a nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon and slightly sweetened whip cream. You must treat yourself and your guests to this
