Our chest rubs, although all natural, come with a warning label. Our rubs contain pure essential oils diluted in correct dilutions so that they are safe for topical use. However essentials oils or essential oil products should never be used in nasal passages. Our adult chest rub contains potent oils that should not be used on children 12 and under. Bhumi, our detoxifying soap named after goddess Earth,incorporates neem in powder and oil form, camphor and tea tree essential oils for a truly invigorating bath experience. Neem is known for its antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, and anti- inflammatory properties which makes it a great option for all ages and all skin types. It's great for those with problem skin but also good for those with dry skin as it contains Vitamin E. Those familiar with neem oil, know that the ...aroma is quite strong and not very pleasant. However the benefits definitely outweigh the aroma and the soap itself doesn't have too strong of an odour. A little late however we still wanted to share our initiative for the month of November, which is also the month in which Tamils observe Maaveerar Naal or Tamil Remembrance Day. This month we have partnered with the Canadian Tamils' Humanitarian Association - a non-profit which supports disadvantaged rural communities in Eastern and Nothern Sri-Lanka with the help of charitable donations from the community. Due to the devastating effects of the decades long civil war and cont...inued discrimination against Tamils, many Tamil families have been left in poverty and in dire need of basic necessities. @ctha_canada works to empower Tamil lives and their communities by providing them resources and on-going support where needed. To date, the CTHA has funded a multitude of projects including a clothing drive for Batticaloa, financially supporting girls schools, the Dharisanam School for a Visually Impaired as well as the Ozanam Home for Special Needs Children, and more. Perhaps CTHA's most ambitious project is their Adopt-A-Village project in which the rural village of Pavatkodichchenai received access to clean water, toilet facilities, a poultry farm, and a community centre which houses a preschool, medical centre, and vocational training room for women. More recently CTHA initiated a Home Garden Project in the rural village of Kathiraveli in response to Covid. This gave 100 families in need the resources to grow and cultivate their own food. A second garden project provided plants seedlings, seeds, and watering cans to 100 families in Pavatkodichchenai. CTHA has now identified families which would benefit from chickens, a chicken coop, and plants for their home garden and we at, Devi Wellness Company are happy to assist with their newest project. Thus a portion of our sales from this month will go towards providing up to four families with chickens, a chicken coop, and plants for a home garden. All orders placed between October 25th and November 12th were packed and dropped off at the post office over the weekend. An email with a tracking number enclosed, was also sent out and it seems that most orders will be arriving as early as tomorrow! We want to thank you for your patience as we waited on packaging materials and navigated shipping for the first time. Our most notable packaging material is our packaging tape which proudly bears our logo. Unlike widely used pla...stic tape, our tape is both recyclable and biodegradable. It is printed on gummed paper and water-activated which means my eldest sat with a bowl of water and sponge taping boxes closed. We will definitely have to figure out a more time-efficient system for the future. UPDATE: All online orders should be shipped out by the end of this week! Thank you for your patience as we navigate the logistics of shipping for the very first time. One of our biggest challenges in shipping out our natural skincare products (and something totally out of our control) is weather, particularly fluctuating temperature. Our goal has always been to formulate organic, wholesome wellness products and in doing so we opt not to use synthetic stabilizers or emulsifie...rs. This means our products such as body butters and lip balms are prone to melting in high temperatures and if left out in direct sunlight. Commerical products contain phthalates to thicken and stabilize, emulsifiers to prevent separation of water, oils, and butters, and even petroleum based oils and waxes to thicken and stabilize their products to prevent melting and maintain the same consistency throughout temperature changes. As organic products, our products do not contain any of the above mentioned. They are formulated to be semi-soft with a high oil and plant butter content and to melt on contact with skin to provide maximum skin penetration, and thus nourshing benefits. Our products are thus sensitive to temperature changes. However melting does not affect the quality, integrity or effectiveness of our products. Our current solution is to refrigerate our body butters prior to shipping them out. This would mean they would lose their whipped nature, loose volume and become denser like a body balm upon arrival. This is however a better option that a melted pool of oil because you can simply scoop out the butter once hardened in the refrigerator and rewhip it using a handheld mixer. To be on the safe side we recommend placing your body butters in the refrigerator especially if left on a hot porch, prior to opening. In the meantime we will be looking to source an organic emulsifier and natural preservative, which is much more difficult than it sounds. Questions? Offering our products in eco-friendly packaging is of great importance to us. Unfortunately Canada has very limited eco-friendly options to choose from and eco-friendly options tend to cost more, at times a lot more, especially if sourcing from across the border. For the soap boxes we settled on 100% recycled kraft cardboard boxes and uncoated labels. This way both label and box can be recycled and if thrown away can decompose on its own. All our labels are printed on eithe...r kraft, or white recycled/uncoated paper where kraft wasn't available as an option. This is good news for the environment however it also means our labels are not oil/water resistant. Depending on how you look at it, this could be a good thing because labels are dissolvable (easily removable) and the containers are reusable. The only container we have made from plastic, is our body butter container which is BPA free and made of PET plastic. PET plastic is 100% recyclable, however we are hoping to eventually swap them out for aluminum tins. In the meantime we hope to offer a re-fill option to local customers purchasing our body butters. Our bags are made from recycled, uncoated paper. As tempting as it was to stamp our logo onto the paper bags, we opted not to. We are hoping this would encourage the customer to reuse the gift bag rather than recycle it. In an effort to reduce paper consumption only first-time orders will come with a thank you card. Orders will not come with any additional product information, instructions, ingredient lists, etc. on paper. All information will be available via our website. This all herbal face mask is made with organic besan flour, neem powder, kasthuri manjal (turmeric), multani mitti clay, sandalwood powder, rose powder, and orange peel powder to give you a deep, detoxifying clean while tightening pores and leaving your skin smoother and more radiant in just one use. Beeswax is a natural wax secreted by worker honey bees from wax-producing glands. When beekeepers harvest honey they also remove honeycombs, made of beeswax. You may have noticed that a significant amount of our products thus far incorporate locally sourced, organic beeswax. In natural skincare products, beeswax is mainly used to thicken and harden balms and salves. Beeswax also creates a barrier on the skin and thus locks in moisture. When used in body butters/lotions it pre...vents moisture loss and repels water making it more resistant to being washed off. It is antibacterial and anti-imflammtory and offers relief from dry, itchy, skin. Because beeswax is anti-allergenic, it is also easily tolerated by all skin types. Although beeswax is an animal-derived ingredient and therefore not vegan, it can be classified as cruelty-free depending on how it's harvested. In many large commercial bee farms, bees are killed or have their wings and legs torn off because of careless handling. These farms also supersize the hives tricking the colony into thinking it needs to produce more honey to survive, often working them to their deaths. The farms may also replace the honey, which bees produce to get through the winter, with a cheap sugar substitute that lacks nutrition. The queen bee's wings are often clipped so she doesn't leave and she is artificially inseminated, making the arising colony more susceptible to parasites and diseases. This is why if using beeswax or consuming honey it is important to support your local, organic bee farm. Smaller, local organic bee farms support ethical beekeeping and sustainable practices. These farms wait until spring to harvest any excess honey that the bees didn’t use during the winter.The bees live as closely as possible to how they would in the wild, foraging from a variety of flowers and exercising their natural behaviours including mating in flight. The beeswax is collected at the same time as honey and often used by the farming family; the excess is sold. Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts that retain the natural aroma of their source. Although they provide a scent, they are very different from, synthetic fragrance oils, absolutes, CO2 extracts, carrier oils, infused oils, etc. At Devi Wellness Co. we carefully select pure, authentic essential oils obtained through steam distillation for their healing and aromatherapy benefits. Unlike other methods of extraction, steam distillation (and expression/cold-pressed) is ...an organic process, one which uses no chemical solvent, to separate the essential oil from its corresponding plant. We ensure the essential oils we use are from a reputable source even if it means paying more. For example true Rose Otto oil costs about $40 for 5mL. All of our products have a light, natural scent because we add essential oils in the safest dilutions primarily for their skin benefits not scent. Reputable sources only sell high-grade/therapeutic essential oils and are happy to offer more information on the method of extraction of each oil they carry whereas other sources may not have that information readily available. Most fruits, except for citrus, cannot effectively be distilled to produce essential oils. Mango, strawberry, green apple, passionfruit, cherry, etc. essential oils simply do not exist. However strawberry and cherry seed oils, do exist as carrier oils but have a rather nutty aroma. Although citrus can be steam-distilled, most citrus oils (Wild orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit, and Bergamot) are cold-pressed from the rind. Cold-pressed citrus oils are not recommended for use on the skin as they are phototoxic, meaning they can make skin very sensitive to sun. True essential oils have unique properties and should not be used carelessly. For example lemongrass is drying, which is great for those with excess sebum, but not so great for those with dry skin. We have done extensive research on every essential oil used in our products to make sure that they are safe and effective on skin since these essential oils will be absorbed topically via our products. The request for our body butter for dry/eczema-prone skin has been overwhelming. We are happy to announce that we will be accepting pre-orders starting today as our body butters will be in stock and ready for purchase/pick-up by the second half of October. Our body butter incorporates a combination of nourishing fair-trade butters, oils, and essential oils that are easily absorbed to hydrate and protect the skin. We thought about those with nut allergies and as a result refo...rmulated this butter with a oil of similar fatty acid composition as that of sweet almond oil. In addition to that we opted not to use cocoa butter or coconut oil as a small percentage of the population experiences dryness to cocoa butter and reacts to coconut oil. Hopefully this ensures that our body butter is safe and effective for all ages and skin types. Ingredients include highly emollient kokum butter, mango butter, and shea butter in addition to apricot kernel oil, hemp seed oil, evening primrose oil, saffron-infused jojoba oil, seabuckthorn oil, Tamanu oil, local beeswax and Vitamin E. These are the roots of the vetiver plant which is a green grass native to India. It has a very pleasant, earthy scent and is used for its soothing and grounding properties. In skincare it is used for it's high antioxidant content which helps slow down the aging process. Vetiver essential oil, also commonly called Khus oil in the Eastern parts of the world, is extracted from the roots. However the roots can also be dried, ground into a powder, and added to herbal bath powder.... Herbal bath powder, also called kuliyal powder/kuliyal podi/mooligai powder is a natural cleanser used in place of soap, suitable for all skin types even that of babies. When made the right way, it consists of up to 20+ herbs and dried flowers which nourish the skin and balance the skin's natural pH promoting a healthy, even complexion and blemish-free skin. Throughout the last year I've been researching the ingredients that are traditionally used, figuring our their names English or at least their common names. Our Neem & Camphor soap is currently our best selling soap. It incorporates the detoxifying properties of neem powder, neem oil, and camphor. Neem is known for its antiviral, antifungal, antibacterial, and anti- inflammatory properties which makes it a great option for all ages and all skin types. It's great for those with problem skin but also good for those with dry skin as it contains Vitamin E. Those familiar with neem oil, know that the aroma is quite strong and not very... pleasant. However the benefits definitely outweigh the aroma and the soap itself doesn't have too strong of an odour. In addition to neem oil, this soap bar contains coconut oil, hemp seed oil, and additional Vitamin E. We also add trace amounts of camphor oil as a little goes a long way. A couple months ago One Tree Planted initiated a 500 000 fruit tree restoration project in India to combat poverty and hunger while creating a positive impact on the environment by fighting climate change and pollution. The fruit trees are being planted in the rural Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Odisha, where food shortage has been worsened by the effects of COVID-19. Over time, these trees will create sustainable livelihoods for small farmers, changing lives ...and strengthening local economies.Trees being planted include moringa, papaya, banana, lemon, guava, apricot, pear, peach, and jujubes. Of the above mentioned, moringa, papaya, and banana grow quickly and will provide food and fruit within 8-10 months of planting. Lemon, guava, apricot, pear, peach, and jujubes take 3 years to produce fruit, but will provide a steady supply of food and income to small farmers. One Tree Planted estimates that each tree planted will provide at least $10 USD annually in the form of food/profit. In addition to helping fight hunger, these trees will help filter air, trap pollutants, and provide oxygen which is great news considering India has the world's worst air quality. Here's a closer look at our luxurious, skin softening soap, our Rose & Shea Butter soap. It's great for all over but especially great for dry hands or working hands. We use a combination of shea butter, jojoba oil, tamanu oil, and rosehip seed oil hence the honey colour of this soap. The rose scent comes from the dried rose petals, rose powder, and rose otto essential oil used and therefore very mild in comparison to that of a soap which uses an artificial fragrance oil. We ...use a lot of skin healing ingredients in this soap but perhaps the most notable ingredient is the certified fair-trade, unprocessed shea butter handcrafted by women without the use of any machinery all the way from Ghana, Africa. My journey into natural, homemade, bath and skin care began a couple years ago when I was on the search for products to nourish and balance my children's sensitive, often dry, and eczema-prone skin. When we couldn't find anything that worked for us, I resorted to learning about ancient ingredients found in the Eastern parts of the world and age-old routines practiced by my ancestors.
