Happy St. David's Day. Saint David's Day, or the Feast of Saint David, is the feast day of Saint David, the patron saint of Wales, and falls on 1 March, the date of Saint David's death in 589 AD. It has special significance for our Archbishop David, whose father is Welsh.
Is this the old St Margaret's church on Lincoln Road, Fredericton?

Advent is the first season of the Church Year. It begins on the Sunday four weeks prior to Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. It is the season in which follow...ers of Jesus begin again their annual journey with Jesus from his conception to his coming again. During Advent we enter into the Story of Israel, identifying with the children of Israel held captive in their own land, longing for a Messiah to come and rescue them. It is also a season for us to ready ourselves and wait with eager expectation for the Second Coming of Christ. Like Lent, Advent is a fresh start for Christians. It is an opportunity for us to purge ourselves of false messiahs and turn our hearts back toward the one true Messiah Jesus Christ. We live in a world of false gods and powerful kings that vie for our allegiance and often succeed at capturing our hearts. Just look at the frenetic and materialistic way our culture celebrates Christmas. If we allow ourselves to simply go with the flow, we’ll be swept into the currents of idolatry and self-worship. We need seasons like Advent to help us renounce and re-order our rhythms into Christ. Advent is also a time for us to prepare for the coming of Christ. The word advent means the arrival. Jesus came to us once as a baby in Bethlehem. He will come to us again in the end. And he comes to us now by his Spirit, as we seek his presence daily and call upon his name. It is this past, future, and present advent for which we prepare this season. So we put ourselves in the COUNTERCULTURAL posture of silence and waiting. We refrain from the instantaneous gratification of getting whatever we want whenever we want. And we allow ourselves to feel our need for a Savior. The season of Advent can lead us in this way, and, if we choose to participate, our celebration of Christmas will be more joyful and meaningful.

Mission to Seafarers: Changes this year due to COVID-19 We will have a Christmas program for seafarers this year, but it’ll be a bit different. We will sanitize and handle everything in accordance with COVID-19 regulations. Anything in plastic or cans (shave cream, shampoo, toothpaste, packaged candy and nuts) will be wiped down. Other items (hats, socks, cloth items) will be isolated prior to distribution. As to the differences this year, we won’t be packaging individual gif...ts. We plan to send a large package to each crew for distribution on the ship. There will be plenty of items so that each seafarer will have some things and be able to share other things, but each seafarer won’t have one of everything. Please help if you can. Deadline to drop off gifts is Dec. 4, although late gifts are accepted.

Farraline Place Virtual Gala Dinner From Sharon Simms, on behalf of the Farraline board: "Due to COVID-19, we will not hold our annual fall fundraising gala din...ner. Instead we are inviting you to a dinner that is not going to take place. Unfortunately, the ongoing work at Farraline Place and the caring of our residents has not been cancelled. Even though we cannot offer you dinner, the annual your choice auction and the opportunity to purchase preserves and baking, we are hoping you will continue your support. The challenge is ongoing to make a home for low-to-modest income residents, and this particular year is more crucial than previous years. Due to COVID-19, when we had a vacancy, we were unable to have people come in to view our facilities, hence our revenues have diminished. Back to the dinner: A ticket is $50 per person. We would be overjoyed to receive your donation of that or more. For donating and for information, call Sharon Simms at 452-8909 or home administrator Judy O’Donnell at 455-6443. Thank you!"
Advent is not far off!
