It's been awhile since we posted anything about Dave's chronic kidney disease journey. As you know he posted a heart wrenching message about the need for a kidney. After 27 years it was time, he was in kidney failure. The response was overwhelming! Never have we felt so much love and support! After a few months of testing an amazing woman came and visited us at the shop, and she told Dave that she was approved to be his donor! This angel who gave Dave his life back is Tammy V...erhoeven. Talk about emotional, there are no words to describe such a selfless act of kindness. The surgery took place on July 30 at University Hospital in London. The doctors and nurses, and everyone involved on the transplant team were amazing! Dave and Tammy met outside the hospital at 6am in the morning and went in together. Tammy's husband Rob and I could only watch them enter together because we weren't allowed inside, COVID, we just stood there with tears in our eyes as our loved ones walked away from us. I got the phone call late in the afternoon from Dave's surgeon that Tammy's kidney is perfect, and it began working as soon as they attached it to Dave! Now the healing begins. Tammy did fantastic, she was home that Saturday! Dave's first question after surgery was, How is Tammy? He was so concerned about her, and so relieved when he found out she came through the surgery without any problems! Dave's first few days in the hospital were hard, his kidney was working great, but he was so sick. It broke my heart seeing him like that, and even worse, I was originally only allowed 1 visit, but because of his compassionate nurse Peggy, I got in 3 times. By day 5 he was ready to come home. And being your typical man, he wasn't waiting for no porter to wheel him out the door! He messaged me and said I'm walking out, I said no your not! And he said, I'm in the elevator! And he was, thank God I was parked right out front because there he was heading out the door!! He's home now, and behaving very well. He's giving himself time to heal. We go back to the hospital 2-3 times a week for blood work and clinic visits to make sure he isn't rejecting his new kidney. He will be a while yet before you see him at the shop, but he is doing great!! Thank you to all our friends and family, we couldn't have gotten this far without ya's! So I've got something on my mind. The whole world goes to shit and the government thinks that because you haven't driven your car for a couple months ,you should get a refund from your insurance company. If that's the case why dont all the motorcycle riders that are getting gang raped by the ins company's get money back for the 6 months our bikes dont move all winter. When I was a young fella you paid a reasonable price and insured for the season. Drove your car in the winter... and bike in the summer.people are paying crazy prices to ride and it keeps climbing every year. We need to get geico or something like that in canada ,ins is big business and it almost sounds illegal to me when intact is your only option for a custom bike in ont. It's almost like price fixing or a monopoly which I think the ins industry should do something about. I'm gunna be in recovery for a bit in the near future and I'd like to try and get something going on this. Any input would be appreciated and if you have a ins contact that could hook us up and help out get a hold of me.i know I'm not the only one who wants to get a better deal and more options thanks in advance Dave See more
