Part 2 of Egg Tempera! if you missed Video 1 make sure you go and watch it! As you know, I love to make my own supplies for painting; my favourite paint is Egg Tempera. There are many recipes for making egg tempera emulsion; this is the one I learned from @frankceeeee. ... Video 2 5. Add WHITE wine is equal portions to the yolk. (This is where having measurements on the side helps) . If you want a thinner emulsion, add more wine. 6. Add a couple of drops of Tea tree oil. (Or you can also use Oregano oil) these are antimicrobial and helps to keep your emulsion from going off. 7. Mix and pour into a squirt bottle then keep in the fridge. ( good for a couple of weeks. Though I have got longer out of some. Of course, normally I need to make more before that anyway) What is the vodka for I hear you ask? That is for the adding of pigment, and there will be a video on that coming soon. Video 1 is separating the egg yolk; Video 2 is the mixing of the emulsion 1. Separate egg, 2. Wash gently under tepid flowing water SLOWLY roll the yolks down your palm starting at the heal of your thumb, then transfer to your other hand and repeat. Making sure you dry your hand on a paper towel between each pass. Continue this until the yolk sack has dulled. 3, very carefully pull off the whitetail on the sack 4. Hold the yolk gently but firmly over your collection vessel. ( I use this beaker cup as it has handy measurements on the side.) Then carefully break the sack and empty the contents Into the vessel while making sure NO parts of the sack go with it. Discard the empty sack. Repeat this process till you have the desired volume of yolk. #artist #painting #creative #inspiration #handmade

Part two of Gesso and Muslin layer process Here are the as you go images of the process, now that they are complete, we must wait a week till completely dry before sanding. Before painting begins, I need to make a smooth base including a thin muslin and gesso layers. You will see more in-progress photos soon. . . ... "Gesso", also known "glue gesso" or "Italian gesso" is a traditional mix of an animal glue binder (usually rabbit-skin glue), chalk, and white pigment used to coat rigid surfaces such as wooden painting panels as an absorbent primer coat substrate for painting. I aim to use homemade products where possible in my artwork. My current piece is a commission on the wooden baseboard. You may have seen previous posts with the frame carving. #artist #design #handmade #instagramartist
