Every Thursday, we are hosting virtual Elder Hours from 6-8 PM for all youth between the ages of 12-29 yrs! Tomorrow, Jan. 14th Dene Elder Violet March will be joining us. Every Friday beginning in January, hosts another new and e...volving program which develops throughout a whole four months! In collaboration with Miskanawah's new Family Resource Network (FRN), January's showcase is "The 4 Elements of Hip-Hop" but get ready for February! Next month hosts a string of guest facilitators also, who will be speaking on Indigenous Theatre! As for Saturdays? Beginning this New Year off right, we are bringing to you a series of Indigenous Artistic workshops which will require registration for each RSVP participant will receive something delivered! Hello! This news is incoming for a non-profit called CAOS, Calgary Animated Objects Society. They are having an online event on Nov. 19th (TOMORROW) with the Boys and Girls Club from 6-8pm. We are helping to extend the invite to other youth and non-profits to participate! The event is called "Education is the New Buffalo" as named by Elder Casey Eagle Speaker. COAS will be showing some indie films made by local Indigenous artists like Cobra Collins, Patricia Duquette, Nako...da AV Club and some of them have been part of the film festivals, including RCKLSS by Tank Standing Buffalo! They will also have local Indigenous leaders on film like Steve Kooteney, Kelli Morningbull, Elder Casey Eaglespeaker and more (including Diamond Willow's own Tamara Himmelspach!) This event is being funded by the Canada Learning Bond so they teamed up with Bowwest and Momentum and are encouraging youth to sign up for their Canada Learning Bond account by giving the youth $20 for attending this event! Then if you choose to open up a Canada Learning Bond account, COAS will give you another $25. The catch? You have to give their name, email and phone to our form. Not only are we a part of the broad programming that is hosted through Miskanawah, but many of our staff are knowledgeable about community partners, food, housing, and educational resources, access to Elders, cultural teachings, and/or medicines for any of your physical/mental/emotional/spiritual needs. If we cannot source a connection in-house, ...we will certainly to our best by reaching out to our neighbour agencies and find what will suit you best.
