If you're wandering around Calgary and Canada today, you may wonder why homes and businesses are lit up in red. Well, they represent the live entertainment com...munity. The entire industry has basically shut down, and many many many people have been laid off or remain without work. As we can't truly get up and running again until larger gatherings are safe, the industry will be one of the last to fully reboot after the pandemic. Many of you were sad when you missed shows, events, festivals or concerts this summer, but for us , we also lost a much needed paycheque as well.... If you see buildings in red , think about everyone you see working when you're at a sporting event or concert. Think about everyone involved in the last production you saw. Think about the hospitality and logistics people who are there for our artists from out of town. Think about those who have worked in the industry for years and are now on very shaky ground.. What can you do? Be responsible with your mask-wearing, social distancing, and hand washing. Stay home if you're sick. Do what you can to support legislature that supports gig workers and those who don't qualify for EI. Sourcing fabric for a client's DIY re-upholstery project. Heavy weight vinyl in a selection of reds - maroon - brown - black; for them to select from. So glad I keep a "small" stock of my favourites around for days like this. I am avoiding going to fabric stores currently during Covid because my health and the health of those around me are priority.
