When you are going to be completing a #LandUseCompatibilityAssessment, it is likely going to present you with a series of difficulties and opportunities that you might not have expected to encounter. As a result, you will not be prepared to tackle them successfully. That’s why we threw together this list of the most common opportunities and difficulties faced in land use options to help better prepare you for the inevitable. http://bit.ly/compatibility-assessment #BreatheCleanAir
If you are planning to do any Re-zoning and Planning Act submissions, then a big part of the process is going to be the completion of a #LandUseCompatibilityAssessment. Without them, you are not going to conform to the Provincial Policy Statement. But while completing this process, you might discover a particular set of challenges and difficulties that you were not expecting. Luckily, we’re here to help prepare you for them with this helpful list of the most common ones you might face. http://bit.ly/compatibility-assessment #BreatheCleanAir
In Ontario, the Planning Act and the supporting Provincial Policy Statement (PPS, 2020) require that adjacent land uses are compatible, or in lay terms, do not cause each problems. There are many aspects to compatibility, but in the present article, we shall focus on environmental (air and noise) compatibility, as we are the foremost #AirQualityAssessmentConsultants in Ontario. https://bit.ly/GuideForTreatmentPlants #BreatheCleanAir
Focussing on #AirEmissions this requires an assessment of air emissions from sewage treatment plants and their potential impacts on sensitive land uses, such as residential areas. To support tests for adverse effects assessments, the (then) Ontario Ministry of the Environment developed the D-series set of documents. At #DiGiSciEnvironmentalConsultants we provide support to #EnvironmentalPlanningConsultants to conduct such tests. https://bit.ly/GuideForTreatmentPlants #BreatheCleanAir
Permits can be one of two main types, either an #EnvironmentalComplianceApproval (ECA) required for higher-risk facilities, or an Environmental Approvals Sector Registration (EASR). The main difference between the two types of permits is that, for ECAs, the assessments (for air and noise) must be submitted to the MECP for review and approval. https://rebrand.ly/Air-QualityStandards #BreatheCleanAir
In Ontario, certain proposed facilities, largely government-backed or infrastructure facilities, require an #EnvironmentalAssessment of some type. An EA is meant to ensure that #EnvironmentalImpacts are not problematic but, at a higher level, also ensure that #ProjectPlanning has carefully considered (possibly less impactful) alternatives to a proposed project. https://rebrand.ly/EA-Reports
The MECP (short for Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks) inspection is nothing to be afraid of, but only if you are prepared. Sadly, >75% of Ontario businesses are missing critical #EnvironmentalCompliancePermits and paperwork and will not pass such an inspection without the assistance of an #EnvironmentalAssessmentConsultant. Here’s what you need to know and expect to pass. https://rebrand.ly/MECPInspectingBusinesses
The most common counter-example, for #EnvironmentalConsultants, of exemptions is where you might have process-sources of gas combustion which are not exempt and thus requiring permitting. If there are other sources of gas combustion on-site, that are normally exempt, for example limited comfort heating, NOx emissions from those (otherwise) exempt sources must be included in your #AirEmissionsAssessment. https://rebrand.ly/Air-QualityStandards #EnvironmentConsulting #BreatheCleanAir #AirQualityStandards

Rather than have to complete a full #airqualityimpactassessment for every facility, the Ministry of the #Environment, Conservation and Parks developed screening guidance documents in 1995. Unfortunately, they were developed in 1995 under the working arrangements at that time, where the #MECP took the lead in reviewing proponent assessments. However, since these guides are all we have available we will take a closer look at the guide that is available for #sewagetreatmentplants, Guide D-2. #BreatheCleanAir #airqualityassessment https://bit.ly/GuideForTreatmentPlants
In Ontario, the #EnvironmentalProtectionAct (EPA) requires that operations that emit air and noise contaminants can only do so under a permit issued by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks #MECP. As Ontario’s premiere #AirPermittingConsultants, we are providing this blog as part of a series of communications to our audience to help provide greater understanding of the permitting process in Ontario. https://rebrand.ly/Air-QualityStandards #BreatheCleanAir
#AirQualityPermitting is not very difficult or costly to obtain for most any business or facility. What can be a pain is getting inspected by surprise when a business has no such permit or has failed to apply for re-permitting with modified or new equipment on-site. This is often the case when new equipment is purchased and installed that requires this procedure. https://rebrand.ly/EmissionControls #BreatheCleanAir
If the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks is likely to conduct an inspection of your facility, it is in your best interest to be prepared to meet its demands. While the requirements to pass this inspection are not too difficult to meet, it is easy to fail just by losing sight of one or more important aspects of it. This is why we offer our #EnvironmentalPermittingConsultant service as a means of ensuring compliance of all environmental laws and standards. https://rebrand.ly/MECPInspectingBusinesses #BreatheCleanAir
Very often inputs, especially into emissions estimation calculations, must be estimated as there is no site-specific data (because the #AirQualityAssessment is forecast, and the facility is yet to be built and operate). This will be the subject of a deep dive blog at a later date. DiGiSci #EnvironmentalConsultingAgency. https://rebrand.ly/EA-Reports #BreatheCleanAir
Streamlined #EnvironmentalAssessments can be used for routine projects that have predictable and manageable environmental effects. Proponents of these types of projects follow a self-assessment and decision-making process. Approval is not directly granted for each project. Streamlined self-assessment processes include class environmental assessments, electricity projects regulation, transit projects, and waste management projects regulation. https://rebrand.ly/EA-Reports #BreatheCleanAir #AirQualityAssessment #EnvironmentalConsultingAgency
