What's the difference between a good family physician and a great one? Is it knowledge base? No - Every good family physician has a decent knowledge base. In fact, knowledge base is what separates a good physician from a poor one!... The difference between a good family physician and a great one, is attitude... When you present with an unusual medical problem that makes you uncomfortable, is non-urgent but requires referral to a specialist, a good physician will refer you to said specialist. A great physician will pick up the phone, and call the specialist, and inquire if there are any treatment options that can be attempted in the meantime, while you wait for that specialist consultation. When you present with a suspicious looking lesion on your skin, a good physician will determine its nothing to worry about and send you on your way. A great physician will dig a bit deeper and discover that the reason you're there is because your grandpa died of skin cancer 6 months ago- and it started with a lesion that looks a lot like the one you have (and it's freaking you out!) A great physician will realise the amount of angst this is causing you, and offer you the opportunity to have it removed to set your mind at ease. A great physician picks up the phone, calls the specialist and makes it clear that this can't wait to be investigated... Good physicians are often busy and hard to get in to, particularly when you need to be seen urgently. Great physicians ensure that they leave spaces in every day's appointment schedule so that they can accommodate their patients' urgent needs on short notice. This approach often means that they make a bit less money (those spaces are not always filled) - but a great physician cares more about the needs of their patients than they do about a few extra dollars. In each of these instances, the good physician's management isn't incorrect or inappropriate, but the great physician is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that patient care comes first... Dear Patients We understand that the COVID-19 pandemic has left patients feeling scared and isolated. We want you to know we are here for you. All of our physicians are available to provide care for their patients. ... Given the current pandemic, we will do our best to keep people from coming to the office. If you have a medical need, please call the office, and we will arrange for your physician to call you back and provide medical advice. We are also looking at video-conferencing options, but we have to weigh up its benefits against the risk of a privacy breach. In cases where an in-person consultation is unavoidable, we have instituted the following operational changes to make your visits as safe as possible: - when you arrive at the office, remain in your car, and call the front desk to check in - our front staff will either advise you to come straight in, if we have an exam room ready, so that you dont have to spend any time in the waiting room; or - our front staff will advise you to remain in your vehicle, and call you when an exam room is ready - each room will be appropriately sanitized before and after your visit - we are limiting the amount of in person visits to the clinic per day to the bare minimum to ensure optimised social distancing Our walk-in physicians are still available to manage walk-in patients, but the above parameters will apply (ie. we will try to manage these patients virtually, and arrange only for those who need an in-person visit to come to the clinic). For medical needs outside of office hours, our sister clinic in Windermere may be able to assist with after hours care (link to Facebook page below) One of the unfortunate consequences of this pandemic, is that patients with legitimate medical concerns are putting off getting them dealt with, because theyre terrified to go to the doctors office. These medical concerns are then becoming more severe, resulting in sicker patients needing more advanced care - sometimes hospitalization. This isnt ideal in the face of a pandemic. Dear Patients Flu seasons is officially underway! We are already seeing increased presentations with flu. We are offering flu shots to all! Our wait times are still some of the shortest in the neighborhood so feel free to come in at any time to get your flu shot! ... We are accredited to provide flu shots to all patients aged 6 months and older. Please also note, that patients are welcome to come in for a regular appointment with their regular physician for a flu shot. Dear patients We have exciting news! Due to the demand for patient care outside office hours, we have decided to extend our hours of operation! As of October, we will be open till 8pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as well!... We have recruited the excellent Dr Sunny Khanna to our team! Dr Khanna is an experienced physician who completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto. He is well known in this community, having worked at this location in the past. Opening September 4th!

Dear Patients We are very excited to announce the opening of Dimension Medical on September 4th! We are a family practice and walk-in clinic located at Square on 23rd in the Parsons neighbourhood of South Edmonton (9122 23rd Ave NW)... We have three excellent physicians starting immediately, and are in the process of recruiting more! Dr Florence Cheng and Dr Tasneem Sajwani have both practiced at this location before. Both are experienced, well rounded physicians, with great bedside manner! Both have existing patient panels, but will be accepting new patients for a limited time only! They are joined by Dr Fangwei Liu - an excellent young physician, who graduated at the University of Alberta medical school in 2015.
