P I R I F O R M I S S Y N D R O M E ~ the compression of the static nerve by the piriformis muscle ... This muscle lies deep to the glute muscles that comes from the sacrum and connects to the femur. What causes this? There is a few different factors that can contribute.. The course of the nerve (it formed through the muscle instead of under it) Trauma (fall on the buttocks) Inflammation overuse (trigger points aka knots) posture (which most people suffer from) Symptoms for this can be.. pain and numbness on posterior leg/glute/back weakness in the hip and glutes pain or discomfort around the sacrum I struggle with this condition so things that help me hugely are 1 going for regular massage 2 self massage using a foam roller and yoga tune up ball 3 LOTS of stretching 4 strengthening the surround glute muscles Although mine comes and goes, I still try to do these exercises as much as I can let’s be honest.. we’re all a little lazy sometimes. But having any of these problems? Book an appointment and we can do an assessment & treatment plan to make you feel better #massagetherapy #piriformissyndrome #rmt #cochrane #stretchingexercises #homecare

Let’s talk Carpal tunnel syndrome What is it you ask? CTS is a condition that results from the compression of the median nerve through the carpal tunnel space at the wrist. Causes of CTS can be:... * increased size of tendons passing through * Decreased canal space * Trauma * Family history * Repetitive actions of the forearms *usually is unilateral, but can be bilateral* After long term affects, range of motion of the wrist starts to decrease making it hard and painful to move the wrist. But what are the symptoms? They include.. * numbness in the thumb, pointer finger, middle finger and half the ring finger * Local pain in the wrist. Can be in the hand and forearm * Limited wrist movement * Swelling * Pain while sleeping I often hear a lot of people just say ohh I’ve got carpal tunnel but for the most part, they don’t have CTS and I educate them on what is actually going on. Well how does it go away?? - first thing, us MT’s will do some assessments and tests to the area to help better understand what’s happening (make sure you tell us all the symptoms you’re having) - If orthopaedic tests come back positive plus the symptoms match, we create a treatment plan with massage techniques to use, home care, and how often to come back. - Massage can really help reduce tight muscles in the forearm, any adhesions, reduce facial restrictions, and many other problems contributing to the problem. - If CTS gets bad enough, surgery is offered to some. Getting massages regularly can try to help reduce the chance of getting surgery, but in some cases it needs to be done. Have any questions or feel you have some of those symptoms? Please dm me and we can chat about it, and/or make an appointment
