Dreaming of a tropical holiday? You should probably stock up on some houseplants...
Spruce up your front porch with some holiday greens! We have white pine, huckleberry stems, cedar, red twigged dogwood and eucalyptus to name a few. Even gardeners who are grinches have a hard time resisting a good old Christmas planter!
Quintessential Christmas plants: Eucalyptus or Poinsettias Which one is your favourite?
We are very happy to have our fall shipped bare root fruit trees available for sale! We finished heeling them all in yesterday in the rain and now you can shop them in the sunshine!
We are swooning hard over these little Vanilla orchids and these Calatheas. Get them before all the staff buy them first! #weloveplants #weallneedplants
Japanese Maples are definitely stealing the show right now. For those of you easterners who have moved to Vancouver Island you may be missing that vibrant fall colour...... But that’s probably because you don’t have enough Japanese Maples! (west coast, best coast? hehehe)
Brighten your winter days by planting Amaryllis. The Amaryllis (Latin name Hippeastrum) are native to the tropics of South America. Typically there will be about eight to twelve weeks between planting and flowering but there are some varieties that will bloom six weeks from planting, so if you want blooms for Christmas plant them quick!
Skimmia japonica ‘Rubella’ Bright burgundy pink buds held tight all winter opening to white blooms in early spring. Deliciously fragrant. Combine both male and female varieties and the female varieties will produce bright red fruit. Glossy evergreen foliage, growing three to four feet wide, and thriving in part sun, Skimmia is essential in any garden that strives to have interest in every season.
This weather makes us want to hibernate and take all of these houseplants home

Have a Bambi problem? Try planting these deer resistant bulbs now for a colourful garden in spring.
What a beautiful day! This weather is giving us all the cozy fall feels. We have plenty of great containers, plants and pots to spruce up your front stoop or door and add some cozy autumnal vibes to your space We are feeling pretty thankful to be surrounded by so much beauty here at the nursery, and here in the Cowichan Valley! If you want to really crank up the fall weekend plans and still maintain social distancing we recommend starting at the @duncanfarmersmarket, then swinging by us here at the nursery, and finishing with a bike ride or walk along the Cowichan Valley Trail @cowichantourism .
When you visit us be sure to enter our ‘Guess the weight’ contest of this prize winning giant pumpkin!
Our 2021 rose pre-order form is open! Pre-order David Austin, Floribunda, Grandiflora, Hybrid Tea, and Miniature roses. Shrub, rugosa and tree form roses will be available on a first come, first serve basis in the spring. https://forms.gle/1vXAaUb5yTouMQhU6
Leylands, Excelsas, yews, boxwood, laurels. We are stocked and now is a great time to plant a hedge. In September and October the ground is still warm enough to allow for root growth and establishment. Nature will take over the watering chore soon after planting. Come spring plants will have adjusted to their new site and growth rates will be much better compared to spring planting. Planting hedging now reduces both plant stress and gardener stress! Watering during the first two summers is still absolutely essential so you’re not completely off the hook
The bulbs have started to arrive and the early bird gets the worm!
Do you love succulents but always thought you didn’t have enough sunlight? Haworthias are a great succulent for partial shade or east facing windows, and we have fresh stock of some quirky and unusual species.
