This Woman On Fire has taken the "time" created by the pandemic to align her love of all things Canadiana with her thriving screen printing and embroidery busin...ess! Graffiti Art is the OFFICIAL provider of all 100 Women On Fire swag...and we are proud to have Karianne Copeland as a sponsor for the 100 Women On Fire Virtual Event! Her story... In 1995 Graffiti Art Inc, was founded in downtown Midland as an 'Embroidery Emporium". In 2005, she and her husband Brad purchased Graffiti Art and began their lives as entrepreneurs. Bringing experience from big corporate to our little operation, they expanded their business to include an in-house screen print shop and 6 heads of embroidery. In 2014, they undertook their first major renovation to the storefront and expanded the square footage of the store by moving the front wall out and the ceiling up. Much to their surprise, the original tin ceilings were discovered intact! This renovation began their foray into the retail market. By 2019, the retail side of the business had grown so much that they could no longer co-exist with the apparel decorating side, so plans started to evolve for their next major renovation. This renovation coincided with "The Big Dig" where the town of Midland needed to do some major infrastructure work on King Street thus disrupting the entire downtown for the majority of 2020. With this in mind, the decision was made to move the decorating side of the business to the back unit of the building allowing a more streamlined production area and a more convenient access point for our customers. This also allowed for more space in the retail store! Renovations were completed in 2020 - despite the global pandemic - and the retail space reopened on July 18, 2020. Loved finding this little butt in my garden while I was taking a much needed break today! I am working on bringing my vision to life and I’m 100% committed to creating a memorable experience for (myself and) all my guests of the 100 Women On Fire Virtual Event this year! And that means a few weeks of long days (with small breaks in the garden) and checking off 1000 tasks between now and Oct 17th! I feel like this busy little doing my part for my community.
