Direct Farm Manitoba 17.11.2020

A great article looking at seed saving and a resilient local food sector, including looking at the question: How do we strike a balance between non-Indigenous growers using heirloom or native crops, but still ensuring Indigenous growers and seed keepers are supported in their own food sovereignty? https://modernfarmer.com/2020//the-seed-saving-descendants/

Like grocery stores in our province, the market remains open for regular hours at lowered capacity. Farmers' markets remain important places in our community to... access fresh, quality local foods and other products. Our market is the closest you will get to an open air shopping experience in Manitoba at this time of year. Our heat is radiant (not forced air) so air is not recirculated and fresh air moves freely in and out of the building. That's why the ambiant winter temperature at the market is always lower than a bricks and mortar building. This is probably the first time we've been thankful our structure is not air tight! . If you plan to shop this weekend: If possible, please send just one person from your household All COVID protocols are in place. Please sanitize on entering and exiting the market, wear a mask, and maintain physical distance. There may be a lineup: dress warm! Vendors have sanitizer at their tables for mid-shopping use Please "shop, don't stop" Aisleways will be directional Don't touch products unless you plan to purchase Stay home if you are feeling at all unwell If you are not comfortable coming into the market, or are immune compromised, visit our Online Market (linked in our profile). It's a great way to shop local with touchless, drive through pick up. #LocalLivesHere #WeAreManitoba See more
