This is awesome news from a disability perspective. Now I don’t have to hear but even the Mayo Clinic recommends graded exercise therapy for ME from defence lawyers anymore. Not that that defence ever worked on my clients and me. Another small step in the right direction.

Posted @withregram @fragmented.me WE NEED MORE GP EDUCATION IF THIS IS WHAT THEY THINK. No wonder we are feeling unsupported and misunderstood. #Repost @irish...mecfsassociation ****** Shocking figures from the UK, but in some ways, not surprising. Dr Nina Muirhead, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust presented this at the ongoing UK CFS/M.E. Research Collaborative [CMRC] conference - We try to do some medical education ourselves. Unfortunately, we had to cancel four events we had planned for June in Athlone, Cork, Galway & Limerick due to Covid-19. We hope to run one or more webinars later in the year.

On April 29, at the invitation of the B.C. Psychological Association, I will be moderating an Ethics Salon for psychologists in BC on the navigation of a mental health disability claim. I have moderated Ethics Salons for psychologists over the years, and this will be the first one that I do via webcast. Although I enjoy the interactive nature of a live presentation, I look forward to reaching a bigger audience via webcast. I expect that there will be an increase in mental hea...lth disability claims in the coming weeks and months due to the increased stress, anxiety and isolation caused by COVID-19. In Canada, mental health disability claims are the top category of disability claims in terms of sheer numbers, and are also the most denied disability claims. As a disability lawyer, I have represented lots of clients who live with mental health illnesses in fighting insurance companies. It is a sad reality that many feel that they cannot handle the stress of an appeal nor the stress of dealing with the insurer on an ongoing basis. https://www.psychologists.bc.ca/civicrm/event/info

For those living with chronic fatigue/myalgic encephalomyelitis, fibromyalgia, Lyme and mental health disorders, here is a valuable online treatment resource available immediately: I interviewed Dr. Brenda Lau, pain intervenionist and founder of CHANGEpain clinic in Vancouver. Over the years, Dr. Brenda Lau and I have worked together on helping clients / patients who have had their long term disability benefits claims denied. Dr. Lau introduces CHANGEpain's innovative respon...se to the physical distancing by providing various daily online treatment sessions by different treatment providers. The clinic has an online weekly calendar available on its website www.changepain.ca setting out the daily sessions. The services are available to anyone with an MSP number in BC, even without a GP referral. Many of the services have a mental health angle which is crucial in the current climate. #fibromyalgia #chronicfatigue #Lyme #myalgicencephalomyelitis #depression #anxiety #longtermdisability #ltdlawyer #disabilitylawyervancouver #changepain See more

The Hyams Clinic has a brand new website which is up and running today. I have worked closely with Dr Hyams over the years in supporting Patients and Clients with denied long term disability claims. I recommend Dr Hyams as a physician who has the experience, knowledge and bedside manner to anybody living with fibromyalgia and myalgic Encephalomyelitis/ chronic fatigue syndrome.

The interview with Dr. Ian Hyams is available for viewing. I interviewed Dr. Hyams on COVID-19 and the vulnerability of the ME/FM/Lyme/ immuno-altered community. Dr Hyams answers questions posed by members of the community which were posted on this page and which were emailed to me. He speaks to questions regarding the use of anti-virals, low-dose naltrexone, preventative measures and the expected duration of the virus. A word of thanks to friends Sherri Todd of the National ME/FM Action Network and Elizabeth Sanchez of the ME/FM Society of BC, as well as Jen Marie and Becky Lynn, admin and members from LYME: OHOH CANADA. #drhyams #covid #fibromyalgia #chronicfatigue #myalgicencephalomyelitis #lyme #disabilitylawyer #lowdosenaltrexone #ccdp #hyamsclinic #ltdlawyer https://youtu.be/727I5vMHXi0

We have had a lot of questions submitted to present to Dr Hyams. We will be focusing on those questions related to COVID-19 and its potential impact on medically vulnerable persons. Please note that Dr Hyams cannot give individual treatment advice. We hope to complete the interview and upload the link to this page by the end of the week.

A serious concern for those who have been temporarily laid off due to the COVID crisis: unless employers continue to pay premiums for benefit coverage (specifically disability coverage), laid-off employees likely will not have the protection of disability coverage during the lay-off, as they will not meet the actively at work requirement as defined in group policies. Coverage is dependent on premiums being paid, and if not actively at work (absent policy-defined exclusions such as temporary lay-offs), employees are at risk of having no wage replacement benefits should they become disabled during a temporary lay-off.
