Their sublime beauty is surpassed in my heart only by their nobility of spirit, gracefulness of carriage, braveness of heart, intelligence of mind, and sweetness of their nature. Arabian horses... they really are quite perfect. #ArabianHorseGalleries #ReachingMillions

*Wadduda with her filly, Mekka, by Muson. Pictured with Sied Abdalla, a Bedouin slave. A chestnut mare, her name meant affection and love. She was the war mar...e of Sheykh Hashem Bey, who gave her to Akmut Haffez, the diplomatic Ruler of the Desert, who in turn gave her to Homer Davenport. She was of the Seglawi-el-abd strain. She was a remarkable individual, having been the favorite war mare of her time to the ruler of the Anezeh, showing two scars of the lance on her neck. She was ridden from Iskanderoon to Aleppo to overtake camels that had been passed without being checked, a distance of 106 miles in 11 hours, after having suffered injury to her right fore pastern previous to that ride. Meet *NEJDME According to historical data, she was bred by Hedje Memmed of Damascus, Syria. She was born on December 01, 1887, and is the offspring of two unnam...ed desert bred horses. *NEJDME was one of 40 purebred Arabians brought to the United States by the Hamidie Society for exhibition during the 1893 World's Fair at Chicago. At the dispersal auction at the end of the fair, she was purchased as the highest-selling lot by C. Kindorf of Chicago, Illinois. *Nejdme went on to the ownerships of J.A.P. Ramsdell and Homer Davenport and produced a total of 11 registered purebred Arabian foals (5 colts and 6 fillies) before her death in 1914 at age 27. Nejdme has the place of honor as the first horse registered in the studbook of the Arabian Horse Club of America. Therefore, her official registration number is one! The Al-Marah Arabian Horse Galleries are dedicated to preserving the history of the Arabian horse and sharing it with the world.
