"I've been at DLC for a whole decade. Now, I say goodbye with tears in my eyes. I came as a camper and worked my way up until I became the Head Counsellor. This has been one of the best journeys of my life -- growing, maturing, joining the counsellor's table, seeing others grow, make lifelong bonds and even having others join me on the counsellor team. It has really felt like a whole new generation was formed before my eyes, and I have been part of this lengthy process. Disco...veryLand Camp is one massive adventure, and I'm completely humbled by being a part of it. Though my chapter ends, the story goes on as I pass the torch to my friends, co-workers, and future campers. "I was shy the first year I came as a camper. I didn’t know anyone, but throughout the 2 weeks that I was at DLC, I met new people and have made some of my closest friends there. My favourite time was a disco on the 2nd field at night. It was really fun. We played music that we liked and fooled around with our friends. "Three years ago, the counsellor Daniel G and I were running the survival trip. Midway through the night, we had run out of not only water, but food. Which meant we had to hike down the valley and then up the mountain in the dark to meet Valeriy, who would give us what we needed. Sweaty and out-of-breath, we finally got to the top of the mountain, only to see Valeriy pull up in his car with nothing but two massive sacks of raw potatoes. 'FELLAS,' he said in his amazing Russ...ian voice, 'TIME TO LUG THESE BACK DOWN AND UP THE MOUNTAIN, EH?' I laughed so hard I almost choked. Here we were, scratched, exhausted and hungry in the dead of night, and Valeriy was still telling us to keep up the good spirits in his own hilarious way. The potatoes and the water together weighed something like 50 kilos too, it was ridiculous. And when we finally got back? Everyone was asleep! Even Tami and Tyler said they weren’t even all that hungry. I will never forget that adventure, and I come back every year, just in case there are more potatoes that need hauling, or more mountains to climb."
