POLKA DOT! Hand-carved amethyst set in 18k white gold with a matte finish. Of course, I can say this with most jewellery here at Disegno but, really, you won’t see this anywhere else. The amethyst is 22.08 ct and the ring weighs a whopping 25 grams. The gem was carved in the famous carving centre of Idar-Oberstein, Germany. FAB FRIDAY: Okay since we're on a roll with Signet rings, here's another for this week's FF: Solid 18k yellow gold with a button of 18k rose gold. Lots of room for a signet -- go on, have your puppy's face engraved, ya know ya wanna. Regularly $2430, less 30% = $1700, a savings with taxes of $825.

FAB FRIDAY. Okay, after a bad start to the week (the boutique broken into in the wee hours of Monday morning), let's finish it with a really Fab Friday. Square studs: I don't think the photo does justice to how beautiful these gems are: salmon pink moonstone slices that glitter with a salting of some minuscule platelets. I've never seen this in any of the other top-drawer moonstone I've bought over the years. The slices have been set in 18k rose gold. Size-wise, roughly, ...a dime laid on top would just hide them. Happy to provide specific measurements if you'd like. Regularly $2270, less 40% = $1360, saving $910. The glass has been swept up and replaced in the showcases and the front window will be installed in a couple of weeks. AND ANOTHER: 'Trench', perfectly stackable 18k yellow gold band with a groove running all around the band. The 'trench' is matte finished and the rest of the band high polished. $930.

New product: 'Cinephile'. These stud earrings are named after a very favourite Disegno loyalist Gail D. who loves the movies and never misses TIFF. She came with the kernel of an idea and I riffed on it and came up with this versatile set. It starts with a simple stud with a small round high-polished 18k rose gold ball, wear that just as it is. Second option: To this add a pair of Singing Bowl enhancers in 18k green gold with a matte finish and hammered texture in the bow...l. (There's a discreet hole in the centre of the bowl, the post goes through it). Third option: Hang the 18k rose gold wire circles on the studs (there's a mini loop into which the stud post snugly and securely fits) to show it off against the lobe. Fourth: Now, here's a final option that also looks great: hang the wire hoops at the back of the lobe. About three-quarters of it will peek out from behind the ear. Really sweet. FABULOUS FRIDAYS: Solid 18k yellow gold earrings with an exquisitely detailed fleur de lys carved in relief. Matte finish on the background contrasts with the high polished fleur de lys, the rim and the back of the earring. Such a classic symbol, and not just the purview of the French. The stylized lily is part of the coats of arms of Florence, Spain, Bosnia/Herzegovina and various European cities. The top of the drop sits a few millimetres below the lobe. This is heated citrine, so natural pale-yellow, and if you look closely you'll see the carved 'veins', 'twigs' that are raised and are carved on both sides of the gem.
