Active Living Coordinator (Maternity Leave) Position title: Active Living Coordinator (Maternity Leave Placement) (Municipal Physical Activity Leadership Program) This is a cost shared position with the Province of Nova Scotia Position Summary:... Working under the direction of the Director of Community Development & Recreation, the Active Living Coordinator will implement the St. Mary’s Active Living Plan in accordance with the Shared Strategy for Advancing Recreation in Nova Scotia. The Active Living Coordinator will be responsible for the organization of a wide variety of programs, activities and events in St. Mary’s. Duties will vary for each program and may include, but not be limited to: delivery, coordination, assisting, evaluating, supervising, promoting, scheduling as well as creating and establishing relationships with community organizations. Sherbrooke N.S. - The Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s is very excited to announce that Gabriela Shupbach is the 2021 Volunteer of the Year for the Municipality. Gabriela will be recognized at the Nova Scotia Virtual Volunteer Awards Celebration on April 22, 2021. Gabriela puts countless hours into developing and coordinating the Sherbrooke Main St. Farmers Market. The market continues to grow each year, providing many residents and artisans the opportunity to buy ...and sell locally. Since 2018 Gabriella has grown The Main Street Farmers Market has been growing exponentially each year. It was her vision to see a sustainable and independent market and bring community members together to sell, buy and give away their products and talent etc. The market’s season, vendors and patrons continues to grow year after year. Her efforts and volunteerism have made the market a meeting place for young and elderly to connect, buy and sell produce, handmade items and to have musicians donate their time in collecting donations for the local food bank. Gabriela contributes the success of the Saturday Market to all those who participate including the vendors, patrons and performers alike! Her passion and love for her community makes her an amazing contributor to life in Sherbrooke and area. See more

Nova Scotia is blessed with breathtaking coastal communities. Port Bickerton a perfect example. Yesterday, I visited the Port Bickerton Lighthouse to see the w...ork they are doing to improve their trail system so that more community members, including seniors with reduced mobility, can enjoy the coastal experience the facility has to offer. Over the past few years we have invested $32,000 into the project to help with boardwalk construction over some of the roughest terrain and to help improve the lighthouse interpretive centre. If you're interested in a tidbit of information about the lighthouse - Kyle Findlay, one of our team members in the office, has a personal connection to the facility. His Great Uncle, Hec Lowe, was a former Lighthouse Keeper at Port Bickerton. If you haven't been to the area, you're missing out, so pay them a visit this year!
