Every tree purchased from the Lions enables us t...o assist the community in so many ways. Your generosity allows us To Serve (our motto), so when you buy your tree from the Lions, you are helping us help others; what a great thing to do this time of year. Westport Lions Donate $6,050 in Fall Disbursements The Westport Lions made club history by conducting their first virtual general meeting. To accommodate the... needs of all members, it was decided to hold the meeting at the clubhouse using current protocols but also at the same time offering members the opportunity to participate by way of Zoom. Seven members were at the clubhouse while eight members joined the meeting online. There were a couple of small technical issues but nothing that cannot be solved. We started the meeting as always with the singing of O’ Canada. Usually, we sing it loud and clear, and with gusto. But now, I have a new appreciation for musicians that perform by way of Zoom. It is very difficult to sing in unison when you have eight people singing individually at home. President Jim Scala presented a chart outlining the responsibilities of each chairperson. We currently have 30 different committees, each headed by a chairperson who is usually assisted by several members. As you can see, we are a busy club. This is the reason we are always looking for new members and with such a variety of activities; there should be a project that would appeal to the interests and talents of any new member. If you are interested in knowing the committees or their chairperson, you can find them on our website, westportlions.ca. Chairperson, Lion Dorothy Maynard was congratulated on the success of the 10K draw. It is especially impressive when she had to make several changes to the event due to pandemic restrictions. Lion Cheryl Couper Scala reported a shortage of calendars. She asked members to let her know if they have any unsold calendars so she can redistribute them to members who need them. It appears that calendars for 2021 are nearly sold out. Lion Larry Aresenault presented the fall charitable disbursements recommendations to the club. After some discussion, it was decided to grant $6,050 to 13 different organizations. The club was able to donate this large amount of money because of the tremendous support by the community for our spring draw, $10,000 K draw and now our calendar sales. All our recent fundraisers have met or exceeded our goals. We appreciate and thank all the people that provide us with the opportunity to give back to our community. Lions Dorothy Maynard and Bob Reddick laid a wreath at the Westport’s cenotaph on Remembrance Day. Lions Michael Harris and Cheryl Couper Scala laid a wreath at the Newboro cenotaph on Remembrance Day.
