Before going on ice this winter, please take caution and check ice thickness. Typically, ice must be at least four inches (10 cm) thick to withstand human weig...ht. However, water does not freeze at a uniform thickness. Please remember these are guidelines only. Ice conditions often change rapidly and can present serious safety risks. For more information on fishing safety, search Anglers Extras on saskatchewan.ca.

The District of Lakeland has compiled the most commonly asked questions about the Sasktel survey and posted the answers to our website: https://www.lakeland521.ca/2020/09/11/sasktel-survey-faq/ New questions added September 17th! Answers the following: How do I respond to the survey? Is the DSL service proposed to be the same for all 3 lakes?... Is the community contribution the total cost or is SaskTel contributing to this infrastructure project? Is the DSL service dish-oriented? Is Bells Beach different from the rest of Christopher Lake and Emma in what is currently available for high speed? What is the cost to connect to the house? Would this cost be substantially more at a later date? Are there any equipment or service costs to the subscriber? Is there a minimal seasonal subscription rate for non-resident cottage owners? Would this service replace the need for a regular land line telephone? See more

When you're pulling out your dock this weekend on Emma or Christopher, check to see if you have the old, four-digit plate. Return that plate to our office to get your replacement.

Bears are ruled by their stomachs. When bears associate food with humans, they lose their natural fear and will tolerate people in closer proximity than what i...s safe. Once conservation officers become aware of a habituated bear in an area, they will attempt to safely remove and relocate it. However, if the bear accesses human-sourced food, they become a public safety risk, and they have to be euthanized. The best way to ensure the safety of you, your community and the bear, is to remove all food sources, including securing garbage, pet food and bird feed. If a bear is repeatedly doing damage in your community, even after all attractants have been removed, contact your local Ministry of Environment office or call the TIPP line at 1-800-667-7561 or #5555 from SaskTel cellphones.

August is hot. The temperatures in a car can reach dangerous highs on a hot day, even with the window cracked open. Never leave children or pets in a car on a hot day, even for a few minutes. Take them in with you or leave them home with someone you can trust.

Did you know that a person convicted of operating a boat under the influence faces the same fines and penalties that apply to vehicle operators who drink and dr...ive? When boating this summer, please do not drink and drive. A boat is considered a public place, so open liquor is not allowed for anyone on the boat. This includes pontoon boats. Alcohol is only permitted for passengers on an actual houseboat that has plumbed-in sewage, cooking and sleeping facilities, and is moored to a permanent mooring structure, dock or land. The related legislation is under Part V, 106(1) of the Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act, 1997. Stay safe, Saskatchewan.
