What's the best way to care for removable dentures? Removable partial or full dentures require proper care to keep them clean, free from stains and looking their best. For good denture care:... Remove and rinse dentures after eating. Run water over your dentures to remove food debris and other loose particles. You may want to place a towel on the counter or in the sink or put some water in the sink so the dentures won't break if you drop them. Handle your dentures carefully. Be sure you don't bend or damage the plastic or the clasps when cleaning. Clean your mouth after removing your dentures. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush on natural teeth and gauze or a soft toothbrush to clean your tongue, cheeks and roof of your mouth (palate). Soak dentures overnight. Most types of dentures need to stay moist to keep their shape. Place the dentures in salt water or Renew denture-soaking solution overnight. Check with your Denturist about properly storing your dentures overnight. Rinse dentures thoroughly before putting them back in your mouth, especially if using a denture-soaking solution. Schedule regular Denture checkups. The BC Dentuirst Association recommends Annual visits to have your dentures examined and professionally cleaned. Your Denturist can help ensure a proper fit to prevent slippage and discomfort, and also check the inside of your mouth to make sure it's healthy. See your dentist if you have a loose fit. See your dentist promptly if your dentures become loose. Loose dentures can cause irritation, sores and infection.

Charity is able to make your smile Whiter and Brighter, possibly three shades brighter with Custom made Whitening Trays. Here’s How Teeth Whitening Works A Professional grade whitening gel is placed in a custom tray that fits over your teeth. As the active ingredient in the gel, carbamide peroxide, is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and bleaches the colored substances. The tooth is made lighter and whiter :)... When Does a Denture Need Replacing? Many people believe that dentures last forever! Dentures should be replaced every 5 years. Wearing Dentures for more than 5 years without having them checked could be harmful to your health! An exam with Charity to have your Dentures checked and cleaned yearly can prevent problems in the future.... INDICATION YOU SHOULD RECOGNIZE Your face, jaw and tissues change over the years, but your prosthesis does not. Your dentures are made of a stable and rigid materiel and cannot adapt to these physical changes. Here are some signs indicating that your prosthesis should be checked. *Sore and irritated tissues *problems with chewing certain foods, indigestion problems. *Thinning lips, sagging mouth, a change in facial features. * loose, falling out when speaking or laughing. *has discolored or has odor *softening of the tissues *headaches, neck,or ear pain *bone (ridge) loss *your partial is kept in your pocket most of the time. These changes happen gradually and are mostly imperceptible to you. Your appearance and comfort are compromised the longer you delay replacing your prosthesis. Charity is a qualified Denturist and will tell you honestly if your dentures need replacing or other treatment options that will work for you! Time to ask your self, when was the last time you checked in with a Denturist!

WHAT ARE COMMON PROBLEMS CAUSED BY POOR FITTING DENTURES Most adults opt to replace missing teeth with dentures for aesthetic and practical reasons. Whether its a full set or just partial, a set of well-made and properly fitted dentures can alter a persons appearance, boost confidence, and make a huge difference in their daily activities. You will probably agree that loose dentures are a nuisance. But did you know loose-fitting dentures can also Affect the way you speak ... Be uncomfortable or even painful to wear Make awkward clicking or snapping noises while chewing Cause embarrassment if the dentures keep falling down. Especially in public. Poor fitting dentures can also cause the following health issues. UNHEALTHY EATING HABITS: Poor Fitting dentures can make eating a painful and uncomfortable experience. Some dentures wearers cope with the pain and discomfort by eating foods that are easier to chew. This may solve the issue short term, but over time can lead to weight loss, malnutrition, or even eating disorders. GUM AND MOUTH IRRITATION: Loose dentures can chafe the gums, causing mild or severe inflammation of the mouth. Swollen gums can easily become infected so be on the lookout for red, angry looking gums or a white plaque. CHANGES TO THE JAW JOINT: Dentures that dont fit properly can affect someones bite, leading to changes in the jaw joint. In turn, this can result in the joint pain, headaches, pain in the neck and or facial muscles can be severe enough to impact day-to-day living. JAW BONE ATROPHY: Jaw bone atrophy is the MOST SERIOUS problem related to dentures because, unlike other bones in the body, the jaw bone cannot form new bone tissue. Constant wear and tear on the jaw bone causes it to literally dissolve under pressure in a process called resorption. DENTURES ARE NOT MENT TO LAST A LIFE TIME: Dentures should be replaced every 5 years. Time, normal wear and tear, and our MOUTHS NATURALLY CHANGING shape as we age are some factors that can alter the original fit of dentures. Call our office today 250-743-3311, book in with Charity to discuss your denture health.
